OFF Topic
Hank you put a thread in the penalty box because
"This is not a place to rant about marshall law and shooting looters on site. Go to the NRA site for that. I am sorry that a post that started with good intentions was hijacked in such a manner."
And a number of posts were deleted because they were "off topic" well I wonder if you could clarify exactly what we are supposed to chat about in the "off topic" section if were not allowed to go "off topic"
And no one mentioned a magazine by a leading amplifier manufacturer.

Rules: If things get too heated the thread will be closed and/or removed. Respect each other. I will remove any thread that I see takes anything away from this forum. Peace and chicken grease...
That is the individual rule on the off-topic forum. It has been there since I opened that fourm.
If you dont agree with a topic and feel you must post something saying as much then dont post a reply. If you dont care about a topic then dont post a reply. If you dont have anything constructive to add to a post then dont reply.
and
The off topic forum is put here as a curtosey to members. It is subject to pruning on a regular basis. All posts in the Off-Topic section are subject to deletion without cuase or notice.
Those are the rules in the Rules/FAQ section.
I dont feel like I need to explain anything else.
As for the Marshall Law...I prefer Mesa Boogie.

Imagine my surprise when I read today that Santana plays Mesa Boogie, I knew that, through a 4x12 Marshall cabinet, that I did not know.
Is that off topic?

"If you dont agree with a topic and feel you must post something saying as much then dont post a reply."
Surely Hank it would make for a better forum if people with contrary opinions posted, but with logical and factual reasons for doing so?? rather than just keeping quiet to keep the peace.
how would the world be if people like Martin Luthor King had kept quiet "not posted a reply"?
in any case I didnt ask that, I asked what we are supposed to discuss in the off topic secion. Im not complianing just seeking clarification.
"Do not complan about the rules it will get you nowhere and make you look silly" -Ive heard this somewhere before.
Yes Santana uses Mesa boogie in fact he come up with the name "boogie"
I find them noisy and lacking in middle frequencies, these are the frequencies that cut through the mix so whilst the sound good on thier own, I find they dont work well for live performances, Marshall did a "mesa boogie clone" called a MODE4 and it was a load of junk. the Marshall JCM2000 series DSL/TSL are have slightly less gain than the mesa but have far more bite and bark and really cut through the mix. and cost about half the price. I once met Jim Marshall at a guitar show and hes stone deaf-Poetic justice maybe?

I prefer mesa on the bass but the hard to find Roland JC120 for my git fiddles.
As for the rules, this forum might be a more interesting place if I let all heck break loose, but that isnt what this forum is about. There are plenty of other forums (as I have said over and over and over and over again) where you can go argue all day long about the price of goldfish in indonesia or whatever you want, but this isnt going to be that kind of place.
If I had a dime for everytime I had someone say, "well you are only going to hurt this forum by not allowing such antics...blah blah blah" then I might have 2 bucks. But if I had a dime for every new post on the forum and every new member I would be a rich man....so that is the way it will be. And as Forest Gump says..."Thats all I have to say about that."

While I did not personally have any problems with any of the postings in the Mississippi thread (the situations in the Gulf states are atrocious and bound to come up in conversation), I don't have a problem with the site moderator's (Hank is it?) decision to enforce the stated rules for this forum. I do respect the forum moderator's rules in respect to their forum, and it may just make for a better experience. I can not count the number of forums that I have left due to a poor "noise to signal (content) ratio. So far, and I am a NB, I have been impressed with this site and will continue to post, regardless if I agree with every censored or deleted post.
Having said that I agree with the moderator's right to delete or penalty box posts according to the FAQ's. I will have to determine for myself if I think that the rules are being applied consistently and fairly, or reflect the values and opinions of the moderators. I think that this is only fair given the broad authority given to the moderators under the rules of this forum.
On a side note, and it may get me banned, I have to say that Highlandtide's avatar is somewhat militaristic, to me, and whenever I see it, I feel like someone is looking over my shoulder, even though he has contributed to threads as himself and not with his moderator hat on.
In looking back at this, why are my posts always so long? Do I use to words that are too big, or just explain too much? I have always perceived myself as straightforward and to the point, but these posts feel like novels. Although, the printed word is much lengthier than the spoken.

KCW,
Since you are new here you might not know that Hank sells
Celtic/Scottish/Irish -(cool) T-shirts, Hats, etc.
Since Hank doesn’t plug his own site too often I will.
Here is the link to the Hat.

You know, I had not really looked closely at the avatar and did not realize it was the lion rampant until I followed Nelson's link! Very nice.
