It's spreading!!
I just opened the newest Museum Replicas catalog, and found their centerfold. It's a "Practikilt"!!
http://tinyurl.com/4anhm
It's, of course, a rip-off of Utilikilts, and, from the pictures in the catalog, not nearly as well designed, but it's a lot cheaper - $70, $80, and $380 for leather.

Is it me or is that just a tad short on him?

Not bad looking I guess. I'm still not quite there yet though. I still can't see me in anything other than a tartan kilt... just a personal thing. Maybe one of these days.

They need to show the pleats! I guess this would be a good cometitor to the sport kilt boulder. Who's first?

It's way short on him.
There's more pictures in the catalog, and it looks like the kilt falls to about 4" above mid-knee. I think that he is a big guy though. There are pictures of other people in the catalog; some kilts look a little short and some look like about mid-knee. I'm guessing their stock (and apparently only) length is probably a medium length.

It would be nice if they gave the length.

I called the 1-800 number. The results aren't promising.
The operator didn't know the length (!). She did, however, say that the model is 6' 1", and he's wearing a Medium. She knows a guy who's 5' 7", and the hem falls just above his kneecap. (Still a bit short, I think.)
She doesn't know the number of pleats (she guessed it had TWO pleats), the depth of the pleats, or the weight of the garment. She knew of no other online resources for the PractiKilt -- not even a photo of the back.
One thing she did know is that it has a rear pocket.
One thing I know is I won't order one unless I know more about it. With what I know, I have to agree with the original conclusion: It's a cheap Utilikilt knockoff. The operator said they had lots of inquiries on it, so, who knows, maybe there'll be more on it soon.

UK ripoff
I think UK should be happy with this. Looking at the practikilt and the UK I know I'll buy another UK. Everything about UK is a plus. American made, quality, and a lot of really fun people to get to know.

Scary
Got the same catalog today with the same insert. Very short on specifics, like who makes Practikilt, where they are made, what its made of...never heard of Lotus.
The catalog also offers what seems to be plaid, not tartan, kilts in two colors for $38 USD. Same size range s,m,l,xl. Again no maker, no location, no fabric information other than dry clean only. Amazing that people attempt to sell garments without indicating what fabric they are made from....
Whole catalog is like that...a lot of stuff with pics but little specifics...and one size fits all garments...(they gotta be kidding)....
Think I'll pass on this whole catalog. Thought I'd seen something about Practikilts but nothing comes up on a search exept this thread...maybe on another board.

I suppose they could have called the product "Kopykilt" or "Duplikilt" or "Klonekilt". Difficult to tell what they're like from the poor photos provided.
