A Few Questions for Any Commercial Kilt Makers

I am planning a short speech for my college class in Public Speaking. The subject will be the wearing of kilts in modern society. I was hoping I could get some rough statistics on the number of kilts sold per year, and an approximate breakdown of how many are traditional vs. modern styles. I would also like a short (2 or 3 sentences) statement on the state of the kilt-wearing movement - how much it's grown, where it might end up, any celebrities involved or showing interest, etc.

This info would be strictly for my speech only. It will go no further than the 30 or so people in the classroom.

I would appreciate any help you are willing to give. Feel free to PM me or email me if you wish. My name is Jeff Janssen and email is iolaus @ mindspring.com (remove the spaces).

I sent you an email... I hope it helps your report. I tried to put a few stats in there as well as give you an overall "trend" of the business as well as an overview of USAK.

Jeff, you have the input from Rocky. He is the single best source I know of. He has been here thru the entire Contemporary Kilt movement.

I am just a newcomer to this business. I've only been making kilts professionally for three years. But what started out as a fluke has turned into 7 days a week for me and 4 days a week for my wife. We are making kilts as fast as we can and still have a two and a half month backlog. (granted my design is a little more complicated and labor intensive than most)

From where I stand, this resurgance shows no tendancy of slowing, and if the growth of websites like X Marks and the others is any indication we haven't even started the upward swing in the real growth potential.

I can e-mail you the current stats from Freedom Kilts if you still need them.

Thanks, both of you (and Ron), that'll help a lot.

Steve - Yes, numbers would help. A speech sounds so much more "authoritative" with numbers, even if they're approximates.

    Thanks again.
    Jeff
