A kilt for a hockey player

I am working towards being kilted as often as possible. I am still unsure about the whole work thing, but I am sure I will get there. I would however like to be kilted every second outside of work ASAP. I only have two kilts, and feel I need at least one or two more before it will be easy for me to do this. Luckily Christmas and my birthday are right around the corner.

Anyway my question is this I play hockey once to twice a week in the winter and once a week during the summer, I would like to wear a kilt to hockey that can be washed (in a machine) two to three times a week, I have no problems hanging it to dry as long as it doesn't take more than a day or so to dry. Even better if they are inexpensive enough for me to get two all the better. For those who haven't been in a hockey locker room, they smell pretty bad, as do I after playing so the material should be one that doesn't absorb odors to easily.

I have hand sewn double wedding ring quilts so I am not opposed to making one on my own if this is the best answer, if there are material recommendations that would be cool as well.

Since I only have two kilts right now, I won't wear either while doing things that I could get them messed up. Grilling in them scares me, but they are so comfortable, I deal with it. I also have been hand washing my USAKilt and my SWK, and hanging them, I know I can machine wash them both, but I guess I worry about them so I prefer to do them by hand.

    Thank you all in advance,

    Keith

Sounds like a job for SportKilts. I don't think I'd wear one for anything else - certainly not any dress event where real kilts will be worn - but they might be just the thing for hockey games. They're cheap and washable.

I built a kilt for Mark Bell the defenseman for the Chicago Blackhawks.
He has a black denim kilt. These kilts can be machine washed, hang to dry.
    Hemp also works well too.
I have thrown them in the dryer but best hang dry.
    An other option for you.
    Cheers

Heh... your post made me think I should have an orange/white/black tartan made and wear it to the Flyers games if I happen to go this year ;)

YEah, too expensive to do for real... but it's a fun thought

    Hershey bears kilt

My team colors are the same as the Hershey Bears (we also play at the old arena) while thinking about this last night I decided that if I ever make a kilt it will be Maroon, with white stripes along the bottom and perhaps a Bears logo on the front. Kind of make it like a jersery. I will have to do a Sabres on first since I am from Buffalo originally. But I think it would be pretty cool.

First I have to finish all the quilts I started and never finished since I know my wife won't allow a new project without finishing the old ones. One of the quilts is for my dad and one for our wedding so she has a good point.

I've always wanted to design a "Pittsburgh Sports" tartan, because, as we all know (at least, I hope we all know) that all of Pittsburgh's sports teams colors are primarly black and gold. we can even throw three blue stripes in somewhere to represent the Three Rivers and maybe a red stripe for the steel furnaces.

Then I can wear it to any of my beloved hometown's sports events

That would be a pretty cool tartan. I have the three rivers tattooed on my resume arm I worked in Pittsburgh for a year after college. I would love to see the tartan.

It's a simple answer really. Get one of the UtiliKilts Workman's models. They take a beating like nothing else, and also allow you to store everything in the pockets. In the winter, it will be plenty warm after a game (trust me on that one). In the summer, it's still wearable since the pleats aren't too numerous, and they're "airry".

I have a kilt for the Penguins and Steelers jerseys that I have... Loud MacLeod works well.

For the Flyers, I just wear an all-black kilt with the jerseys. Anything else is just too busy since our jerseys are pretty ornate. It went over real well on opening night!

If your budget is not in line with a UtiliKilt, there's always an AmeriKilt or a Pittsburgh Kilt. I don't know enough about Freedom Kilts, or have even seen one for that matter. I would assume that they would work well for this too.

    Keith,

You already HAVE a kilt that will take a beating and can be washed 3 times a week and STILL LOOK LIKE a kilt... your USAK! Beat it up and let me know how it fares!

    Great advice!!

    All of the above.

I agree with Jimmy - UK workman's are indestructable and the more you wash them the better they get. Was my first thought. Also thought for playing hockey the narrower apron would be helpful in manuvering. And he's right, they are warm.

Would guess your playful teamates or opponents would be tempted to hook your kilt and lift it with their sticks... UK workman's would lend itself less to that.

Don't forget Pittsburgh Kilts for your multi-color look. Jeff already does the Black and Gold for the Steelers and most anything else you can dream up including your maroon kilt with white underpleats.
