need a picture of a phillabeg
I am doing a speech on the evolution of the kilt (abridged) and of course I will be covering phillabegs. I can't find any pictures that are definetly phillabegs though. Any help here would be appreciated, as long as it comes before wednesday, which is when my speech is.

From Celtic Croft:
Looks like he's at least ironed in the pleats instead of just gathering them by hand.

I wasn't sure if that was a phillabeg or not withteh ironed pleats and all. Now that I look at it again I see the loose cloth above the belt. It will work, but I would prefer something more dynamic and not posed. That seems to be my biggest problem in finding pictures, most are posed and many are just advertisements.
Say Hamish and Graham, would you mind if I raid your galleries for pictures?

Jacob,
If there is anything in my photo album that will help you, you are more than welcome to take copies - please leave the originals though!! ;) Be warned, however, that many of my earlier images were taken with very poor resolution and may not 'blow up' well (unlike some kilts on windy days!!) for projection.
Actually, I didn't realise I had a phillabeg! They are a bit too 'costume-ish' for my liking.

I don't know if you have a phillabeg or not, but I still need contemporary kilt pics and something like that picstripe would be perfect.

One of the best period depictions (ca. 1740's) of the philabeg is this painting:

It is "The MacDonald Children" by Jeremiah Davison.
Also, in this interesting article:
http://www.tartanweb.com/kilts.htm
click on the words "the other" in the paragraph about the 1672 "Arms of Skene" to see probably the earliest graphic image of a little kilt (philabeg.)
Finally, if it just HAS to be a photo, here's a recreated philabeg, ca. 1745:
