    Got sporran, need strap

Ok, I just received my newest sporran (alright, my second one!), but the strap included is too short (or maybe my butts just too wide!). So, does anyone have an idea where to purchase just a sporran strap? And I do like the more casual look of the strap vs. the chain, which is what I have on my other sporran.

    And here is a pic:

Stillwater has straps for sale. The site says they are about 48" long. I have seen them on other sites as well in the same length. Everything I recall seeing has been black.

I was able to fashion a workable sporran strap by taking two shorter straps and linking them together. I have a buckle on each side but it works great.

This is a sweet setup http://www.rkilts.com/images/black%20sporran.jpg

What I did on the other hand was found a belt that I liked and cut it to the proper width and length, then slid a lobster claw clip on each end and stitched the leather back around to itself with hemp. It's a very simple look yet attractive look. The catch is, it is not adjustable. What I really like about it is that the belt I wear with my kilts is the exact same belt I made this strap out of so the texture and color are identical and I think it keeps my accessories uniform.

    KCW,

I bought a Buzz Kidder a couple of weeks ago. I really don't like the chain straps that come with sporrans! One afternoon I was cruising the local thrift store (St. Vincent's) and I passed the purse display. Lo and behold there was a purse almost the same color as my sporran. Adjustable straps with nice clips on both ends. Cost me all of $2.50.

    Worth a try anyway.

MacG, great idea! There is a local second hand shop close to us and I will have to check it out. Never thought about a purse strap, but it would be the perfect width, and should have the necessary length.
