    Another new one on me

A Christmas Craft Fair was held in our local church hall yesterday. So the wife, my mother and myself went for a nose. It was actually very good indeed, and they both landed up buying things as usual, even though they always say they are not going to buy anything just have a look .. women! ;). Anyhow, not long after we got there I had what turned out to be the only comment of the day. This very pretty girl as it happened, in her 30's, who had a stall there, suddenly looked up and with a suprised and smiling face said 'You must be on a bet'. I just laughed and then explained to her it was no bet or joke. She then asked me if I wore my Cilt all the time. I said quite a bit of the time as I find it really comfortable to wear and it cost to much to have it stored away at home. She agreed with what I said and told me 'Well done'. I then continued to the stall that were selling cups of hot homemade Mulled Wine.

Odd... I was at a function the other night and someone aked if I was wearing a kilt because I lost a bet....I suppose that that was supposed to be funny....we were, however, not amused.

At an event the previous night (it's been a heavily kilted weekend) the organizer strolled by and told us that the presentation was about to begin and that we should find seats...and then proceeded to "quip" directly to me, "...and if you try to kiss me, I'll slug you." I thought that it would be unmannerly for me to get into a verbal "exchange" with the host of the evening so I simply said, "Not gonna happen, Will...you have my word."

...and these are some of the so-called art and architecture circle in this town...

Derek, you seem to be in a much "kinder and gentler" country...if I may appropriate the words of Ol' Man Bush.

By "quip" do you mean jokingly? If so, I think I would've started making kissy sounds at him, just to be contrary.

Auld, sorry to hear that your experiences this weekend were less than stellar, but glad that they were kilted. Good luck and we must get a Chicago kilt night going, maybe in the new year.

    Derek,

You always seem to have the right thing to say, well done!

Never, ever, go to an art circle function and expect civility. It's claws out time. Went to a refurbished opera house last summer, with all "the music fans", supposed hardcore, to see Wanda Jackson, the Queen. People were talking through her singing and chat. Even the review of the concert noted it. It's their show and how dare you enter it.

That's all from a life time of these events. You're very brave to go kilted to such an event, no wonder they tried to put you down.
