Kilts as Goth wear.
We cover kilts as casual and formal wear but what about kilts as Gothic/Club wear?
Unless I miss understand the concepts behind "Goth," kilts are seen as both counterculture and as crossdress by the kids.
So the question is what accessories would one wear with them? Combat boots are a given, black t-shirt with holes, but what else?

Now thats an interesting thought. My youngest brother is into the Goth thing. He's seen me wearing my black SW and says he would never wear one.Around here I've seen quiet a few teens in the Goth look.None have been seen wearing any resembling kilts or skirts.

The Underground
The Underground (Goth shop) sells women's skirts as if they were men's kilts. I spoke to the Manager about it but they remain happily uncaring.
If the leignth of men's kilts weren't already set in stone, I would prefer a longer kilt, say to mid calf, and The Underground sells them, it is just that I would know the differance.
Black sporran to match the boots?

I remember reading somewhere... in a list of 100 reasons to wear a kilt.
#62: You sneer and call all of the counter-culture punk kids, "Conformists" for wearing pants.

Who says it's set in stone; I wear my UK to just cover my knee.
21st Century Kilts has a full length kilt, and will make any lenght kilt that you ask for.
Their site says "anything from the indecent to the floor."

The problem with goths, and punks for that matter, is they all end up looking the same. It's the packaged rebellion for youth. I have friends in punk/metal bands, guys that have record contracts, that have corporate jobs in the day time, but when they go out dressed like rock stars they joke about being 'geared up'. They don't buy into the whole fashion.
I guess my point is, guys who honestly believe in wearing kilts, and do so because they like to, are the true rebels of fashion. Whether we want to admit it or not, we are outside of the mainsteam, which is fine with me.
Of course, I use to show up at clubs like the 'Double Door' (its like CBGBs in NYC but in Chicago) wearing a suit type outfit. It was funny to see the punk wannabe kids enunciate their dislike for me or my cloths (the same guys who alway bitched about being accepted) when the old school guys, the guys who were playing the show were fine with it. It was my own personal a@@hole detector. They recognized me because I wore something different from the run of the mill crowd.

Whenever I hear the term "mainstream" it reminds me of a button I used to have that said "Go Lemmings, GO" ;-)
