Chain fastener for formal jacket
Thanks to Alan, I'm now $40.00 lighter and awaiting the arrival of an Eton jacket. This question is about the "little chain thing" (technical term) that holds the lapels of the jacket together. Where do you find those? In browesing web sites I notice that the PC's do not seem to use them but the Irish jackets do. So if going with a Scottish Tartan is this not a needed accessory? If you do / don't wear a vest, is it needed?

mmm,... in my opinion is not necessary to wear the chain, wearing a vest or not,... although in Spain we say that "as more sugar, more sweet", so you choose, but I think that I never saw that on a scot!
anyway, this is a free world! u rule!

Cavascout,
Here is a "little chain thing" you should be able to use:

It only costs $5 and you can get matching replacement buttons.

Perfect Bill, thanks. So, it looks like this would be worn with what appears to be a Crail Jacket but with a more formal appearance. Somewhere between a day jacket and a PC coat.
I guess it would also be as simple as getting a small length of chain and attching it to a set of buttons of your choice.

I'm going to drag up this post because I need a replacement. I need the "little chain thingy" for my Brian Baru jacket, so the chain in the link above doesn't really match. I need something with Irish harp buttons. Can anyone help me out?

What I'm doing dave is getting two buttons and hooking a sectin of chain to them. This is really my only option if I want the fatener to match the rest of my buttons since I've modified an Eton Tux coat with pewter button.
I got my buttons from Three Feathers.
The trick is going to be finding a dull silver chain. I'm not sure how shiney silver will look with pewter buttons. Of course my sporran will have shiney silver clasps so maybe it will tie together OK.

Head to Wal-Mart, or similar. Tons of small chains in their costume jewellery sections.

I did *exactly* this and should have pics any day, now. I went to Orchard supply hardware and bought a three-inch length of silver chain. I wired it to two extras of the buttons I used for the jacket. voila, completed.
I'm antsy for the pics, but my lady has sent in the film, so I should have them any time, now.
