    Thumbs up Barleyjuice

I’ve seen other board members posting about Barleyjuice and had visited their website a few times. But it’s like the old song “…you can’t get the sound from a story in a magazine…” So I ordered a CD.

Yesterday the mailman was kind enough to deliver the current release, "Another Round." I'd been listening to a lot of The Pogues and Flogging Molly lately, and I admit, that's the sort of sound I was half expecting.

So I eagerly popped it into the CD player…and was pleasantly surprised. Quite a few “Traditional” pieces, but they are combined with a raw energy that makes you feel like you’re at a live show. Kyf’s growly vocals give the pieces an honest feel and make you want to join in.
I still feel relatively new to this board, so I’m probably preaching to the choir here. But if you haven’t heard Barleyjuice, do it now. I’m not kidding. Stop reading, go to the website and order their damn CDs!!.

I know Jimmy Carbomb frequents these boards, so to you and the rest of the band, very nicely done! If I ever get out to that part of the country, you can bet I’ll make it to one of your show…

I bought "Another Round" a while back and listen to it very regularly. It's a great CD. I love their version of "Whisky in the Jar" the bluegrass portion adds a cool and unique touch a song which has been down a million times.

Just FYI, there are a few (well, at least one) albums on iTunes. For those that partake. I got Another round off there and it's been in regular rotation.

You just can't help but appreciate a nice review like that! Thanks!!

For the record... the third CD is in recording RIGHT NOW. There will be a few traditional jigs and reels in the mix, but there are a lot more upbeat and original tunes with this one. The banjo will be present in two or three of the songs too.

    Upcoming tunes to look for:

"I'm In Love With A Priest" (about a pint of Guinness)

"Whiskey/Bailey's/Guinness" (bluegrass song about drinking carbombs)

"Tartan Is The Color Of My True Love's Hair" (you'll have to use your imagination with the crux of this one)

"Pretty Wild Bride" (performed first time at our reception in '05)

"Modern Pirates" (trading ships and rum for cars and beer)

"Dear Auld Ireland" (traditional with added jigs)

"Dirty Old Town" (you know it... you love it)

plus other concert pieces that we've done since July.

Thanks again for the support, the appearances at the gigs, and the kind words. Now it's time for an entirely new season of meeting-up for music and beer!

Hmmm. I'm glad I ran across this thread. I've been aware of Jimmy and Barleyjuice from this board, have been to their website and almost made it to two kilt nights when they were playing. What I had not done is actually listened to any of their music. WOW...

Off to the iTunes music store.................. :-D

    Good job guys.

Well, tonight I finally purchased the album "Another Round" from the iTunes music store tonight. Barleyjuice's music is very good. Traditional yet er.....almost edgy (if a 43 year old can use that term). Interesting combination of styles. I think I'll get the other album available on iTunes and look for some public appearances.

    Very very nice.

I bought "Another Round" a couple of years ago when my roommate heard "Nancy Drinks Tequila" on his internet radio. Good stuff! I like the originals, and I like their (your?) take on the classics.
