The Rugby Club
Last night we did a gig in Ebbw Vale Rugby Club. There was someone retiring from the club and they wanted to throw a party, so they asked us to do a Ceilidh. The place was absolutely heaving with rugby players and their families and supporters... 10 deep at the bar touch. I thought that if anywhere, this is where I was going to come in for some stick about my Cilt. Still, I made a concious decision that I was going to wear it, come what may. To my complete astonishment my Cilt was never a topic of conversation or looks, not even from drunken men in the loo. Everyone of all ages, treated me normally. So once again I say to anyone who is still trepid about wearing their Kilt/Cilt out in public .. Just do it. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Kilted in the rugby club
... good stuff! But then lots of Scottish rugby fans wear kilts to matches and this is expected of them, so the Welsh would be well used to the Scots around the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
Incidentally, where do you get those little smileys - the ones having a drink a the bottom of your post??

Experience is one of the best teachers... You've sure shown that! The only way to get experience is to do it. You set a great example.
blu
BTW... Do tell a bit more about your band, it's music, etc. Any CDs in the offing?

Well done Derek. I had an unpleasant encounter last night at my local pub where they hold a karaoke each Saturday. I usually call in for a couple on my way to another pub, as I cannot stand karaoke. I was approached by 3 women (not ladies !) who proceeded to maul me, put thier hands up my kilt and try to lift the kilt front and back ! I had to push them off. Fortunately, they realised what they were doing and stopped. I just stared at them in a disapproving way, and they walked b ack to their seats.

Derek you helped me today by your confidence, I had some misgivings about going out today in a kilt! I went to a local town “Wisbech” its got a reputation as a “hard town” but after reading you post I went !! and as you say no problems
Thanks
Derek

This really ticks me off when people do this. I hate it even when it's my friends doing it. You don't pull up women's skirts to see what they have underneath so why would do it to a guy in a kilt? At my rugby end of season dinner in December last year, I grabbed the hand of one person infamous for putting his hands up there as he was about to go in for an exploratory visit and told him that if he ever did it again, he would had better be planning to use a mechanical arm for the rest of his life because I would be ripping that arm off and using it to beat him until he was unconscious.
He hasn't done it since...sadly some people still don't get the hint that it's rude to do that regardless of whether or not you're friends or not....

Well done Derek. I often wear my kilt to local games in Welshpool and don't get a second look. As you say once you have the confidence then you can wear it anywhere.

Hehe, I'm lucky in that I have a built-in garage on my house, so usually the first my kilt sees of the outside world is miles from home. It's a lot easier to go kilted among strangers than among neighbours.
