Kilts at Chicago Motorcycle Show
I was at the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show in Chicago this weekend. Of course, I was wearing my kilt (Ramsay blue, USA Kilt). One of the dealers of motorcycle accessories had the entire crew kilted in UK's. Save for one "skirt" comment and one lady lying on the floor with a big grin looking up when I walked by, it was basically uneventful. The secret is still safe, as I averted my kilt Oh yes, I now know what motorcycle I want when I grow up (Ducati 749s.)

Oh, Jeez...I haven't been the the scooter show for YEARS! This is one of the things that I miss about being older and "responsible"...that and most of my old buddies have drifted off...I keep threatening to drag my kids to custom cars shows but we never seem to make it. An' I swear to God I'm gonna find whatever Drag Strip is still in operation around here and get my kilted heinie to it this summer...I dearly miss the drag races!
I always wanted that Vincent Black Shadow D myself!

Wow, a m/c accessory company using UK's as uniforms! How cool is that? That in itself speaks volumes about how muc kilts are being accepted in society.
Due to my work schedule I had to miss the local motorcycle show last month, and I won't be able to make the World of Wheels custom car show next weekend either. This will be the first time since 1978 that I'll have missed the car show.
AA...I never got into drag racing, but I did get to experience Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Aug. 2002. I was part of the pit crew for the N49 B/STR that my old boss built. Now THAT is something I'd like to do again. One of these years...

Al G - the Benneville thing always seemed like the space program to most of us...high tech, exotic and way over our heads. The drags always seemed more down to earth.
I was ranting on - as middle aged men do - this weekend and said somethng like, "...when I was a kid it was stock car racing and the winner was lucky if he got a six pack when he won...now it's NASCAR and they get boodles of cash...what went wrong?"

Wow, what vendor was that? I'll be at the Indy dealer show in a couple weeks, I'll be sure and look for them.

Actually, I was told the exact opposite. At Bonneville the pits are open and you can wander around pretty much anywhere. The various team tents are not off limits like they are at alot of other racing venues. A number of times when I was looking around I was invited to sit and have a drink with the crews, or asked to help with tuning/mechanical problems etc. It's a very friendly atmosphere.
As for high-tech...yes, some of the "better" teams have gone very high tech. They pretty much have to in order to hit the speeds they do. However, there are a lot of "grass-roots" teams there. Ours, for example, was very basic. You can see what we did here... http://1149.ca/
One of the best parts about Bonneville racing is the lack of prizes/money. The only thing you get out of racing there is the possibility of getting your name in the record book. :-D
