First outing in Mercy lightweight Kilt
Today the sun shone and there was no wind so I thought I'd give the new black Mercy kilt which I bought on e-bay for £24.95 its first wearing. Size XL, which is 40 inch waist and 24 inch length. First time I've worn a lightweight non wool kilt. Because of the use of lightweight polyester there is a hem on this kilt, on which a few loose threads needed to be trimmed before stepping out. I replaced the cheap safety pin type kiltpin which came with it, using a proper kiltpin which helps weigh it down. Tried it on with a long black teeshirt with highland stag motif; wearing the teeshirt outside the kilt looked too punk/goth for a man of my age so I tried it with the teeshirt tucked in and added a conventional kilt belt and plain sporran, which give a much more pleasing look, with rugby socks and black shoes. Wore it to go to the post office, which was busy. Didn't get any comments and wasn't aware of any funny looks. Despite the light material the kilt was surprisingly warm due to the double apron at front and pleats at back and also being about an inch longer than the kilts I normally wear, even though all I wore underneath was a dark pair of skimpy briefs.

is that a black Mercy kilt or the pinstripe one? I can't tell in the pic but it does look like the black one...I have the pinstripe one that I've worn about the neighborhood with no comments...of course I'm young enough to kinda pull of that punkish look

Mercy Kilt
It's an all black kilt, no pinstripes.

This looks excellent value - but can you tell us how it wears/hangs? It may be just what I'm looking for for this summer. How about crease resistance, etc? As much info as possible would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think it wears fine. The material is very soft and smooth but I did take an iron do mine before I wore it out just to make sure that it looked good...but then again I do that to a lot of my kilts. It is lightweight but you will have to see if cessna had success with the heavier kilt pin than what it comes with in terms of keeping it down. I will say that outside of the black, it does seem that they are a bit more "punk" oriented but as you can see it all depends on how you dress it up (or down). I wore my black pinstripe Mercy kilt with a black t-shirt and black Doc Marten boots.
I would definitely say it's light enough for the summer and definitely more on the casual angle than something formal.

Mercy Kilt
I suspect the material will crease and will need ironing but will wear it a few times and report back. In still conditions it looks like it hangs good and gives a convincing representation of a Scottish kilt but I'd envisage that the very light material won't have the correct swing of a Scottish Kilt.

I think the way you dressed it up it looks good. At that price I think it would take quite a bit to not be worth it .
I am interested to hear your further take on it as you wear it more.
Thanks for posting the pics. I would love to see some more a little closer up ;)

The guy I got mine from on ebay still has a number for sale. If you're in the States, I think it took six days for it to get over to me via Royal Air Mail. Maybe it was less....not sure I could totally be wrong as I was knocked on my butt after surgery....
