Time to make a kilt, looking for available material
So, I've got a friend at work who is interested in doing a kilt for me. She's been doing various clothing and such for many decades, but has never done a kilt before. I bought Barb and Elsie's book for her (just got it today) for instructions. Now to search for some material. We haven't hit any local stores yet, but I'm not really expecting to find much, if anything.
Not having much luck in searching for suppliers (other than Celtic Croft advertising here). One thing that I've noticed is the possible delay in getting the material. I'm likely to only be around another two months before moving to WA state, don't want to spend most of that time waiting for tartan delivery; would like to give my friend a fair bit of time to do her first kilt.
So while I do intend to get in touch with Celtic Croft about what would be available in-stock, does anyone have other suppliers that would have a decent in-stock tartan selection?

For a first shot check out some local fabric stores like Hancock Fabrics. I've found appropriate plaids there several times for very little money.

Hi
Lots of places sell tartan retail. Delay depends largely on what's available and what has to be ordered from Scotland, so you'd need to ask about specific tartan. Here are some places:
Scottish Lion: http://www.scottishlion.com/tafari.html
Tartantown (Canada): http://www.tartantown.com/tartandir.htm
Scotland Yard: http://www.scotyard.com/shopping/browse.php?cat=80
The Scottish Weaver: http://www.thescottishweaver.com/pla...icinstock.html
remnants available at: http://www.thescottishweaver.com/tartanremnants.html
