"hilts" Hemp Kilts
I noticed Hilts in Xmark's Casual Kilt Guide section. Has anyone ordered a hilt? I like the look of the cut from what I see on their website and think it would be ideal for a Texas clime, but wondering if anyone has experience with the company or their kilts. And does anyone know if the "hilt" photos on their website are green or steel grey? I have an email into them but w/ the time difference it may be a couple days to hear back.

Do yourself a favor and search the site for hilt. If I recall correctly they are one of the kiltmakers who take your money but don't send you a kilt.
Also thought there was at least one person on the board who received a kilt after a very very very long wait and a lot of unanswered attempts to communicate and was vary dissappointed in the value.
Bottom line - extreme caution - despite the temptation.
Think Robert at RKilts does or was or will offer a hemp kilt. You can trust him. Check it out.

Here's the thread about Robert's hemp RKilts.

You might do better searching this board for "hemp" than "hilt."
There was also a link to the hilt stuff on another board.

I've not done anything with them, but I've heard bad things about them.

Thanks, gentlemen. I had actually already searched and found the threads you provided. "I've heard bad things once from a cousin of mine" may truly be a bad indication, but it could just as easily be self-propagating misinformation.
I will check RKilts as an alternative source but but was hoping someone on the board had actual experience with The-Hilt. I do take your cautions seriously though and will refrain from ordering until I hear from some real customers.
much grass, er um, hemp,

Here's some stuff off the UK board. I'm guessing that the thread we're looking for was from before the format change on this board. I remember there was a guy who ordered, went through many months of difficulty finding out when he was getting his hilt, even getting a response once they had his money.
For sure there hasn't been a positive response or a rush to acquire hilts.
Also, there was an old thread that at one time UK was gonna try a hemp kilt but it proved too difficult to sew. Obviously, Robert at Rkilts has an answer.
Just in case any of you are interested in getting a Hilt from the link
provided, be aware that a couple people have tried and with very poor
luck. Not only was the product not good, the company is pretty shady.
Bottom line, they don't deliver for about a half
a year and when they do the "hilt" is crapola.

And, the Kilt Day website warns about hilts.
BUYER BEWARE:
· Avoid www.the-hilt.com (Hemp Kilt). Poor customer service, unexplained delays and lack of replies to e-mails.
So maybe it was Mark - Motorman4Life that tried to buy from them.

After reading through this thread I decided I'd at least take a look at their website to see what everyone is talking about.
Personally I think it looks ugly. I don't like that X style belt loop on the back, and the straps made of the same hemp material seem weird to me.
And in reading the "About Us" page I really had to wonder. In discussing the other things they support they mention "solar cooking."
What the dickens is solar cooking? Do you wait for an incredibly hot day in South Texas to heat a rock until it will fry an egg or what?
And where do they get the idea that there are rigid rules that are violently enforced by the Scots to keep others from wearing a kilt?
Just didn't seem like my cup of tea.
