California Tartan: A custom run?
I'd order it from Bonbright Woolens, but they're impossible to get in touch with.
I'd order it from the Kilt Store, but it's a custom weave at, like $60/yard for 11 ounce and $67/yard for 16 ounce./ Minimum order is 4 meters (yards) and there's a many-week delay.
What I'd like to do is see if there's enough interest from Californians on this board to do a custom order from Fraser and Kirkbright of a 55% Polyester / 45% Wool...11 oz/yd....59" wide run of the California Tartan. I don't know what they charge for poly/wool blends, but I'll hazard a guess that it's going to be around $35 a meter.
I want the polywool for the reduced cost (still have to stitch up my X Marks kilt) and I have a polywool kilt right now and I really like it. It's virtually indistinguishable from 100% wool to my eyes. I'd be ordering 3 yards, to make a "6 yard" kilt.
F&K's website says minimum order of 30 yards (meters) so that means 8-12 of us would have to go for this to make it happen. Interested?

I'll be talking to James this week and get back to you on what the specs on theirs will be and when they expect it.

If you guys want the California Tartan, I can sell it to you for $50 / yard and it's readily available to ship (BTW... it's 16 oz).

UPDATE: I heard from Gordon Kirkbright, and they can't do this tartan because some of the thread colors aren't available in polyester. They can do a run in Wool, but if their price is in there with what the X Marks tartan costs, might as well buy it from Rocky.
Pity.

OK, that answers several questions including a kilt I ordered from "He who must not be named" (will wait to see what "He" sends me ...).
Putting Rocky on the List of Possibilties.

Yes, if the thread colors aren't available in polyester, then a custom weave of Polyester/Viscose, obviously, is not possible. So I don't know what the gentleman whom you refer to had in mind. He messaged me about the tartan, as well, last July. He probably had a wool weave in mind. **sighing**
