Kilt wanted - I supply the fabric
I've contacted several kiltmakers and all give me the same reply, they won't make me a kilt using material I supply.
If you think you can help, please reply. I have plaid material that I have not been able to find a matching tarten. I want a kilt to match the interior of my VW Westfalia camper. I can send you a sample to see if it is possible and how much it will cost.

First off, welcome. For the kilt contact Matt Newsome. According to his site he will make one from tartan you provide.

My next kilt is going to come from Matt and I can definitely tell you he's timely with his responses and will give you all the details you need in terms of the amount of fabric, the type to get, etc. I'm also going to be shipping him some kilts to hem up an inch or two so they are the proper length....some of these standard 24s are WAY too long for me...

I remember people posting that they had been able to get Kathy Lare to make them kilts from the XMarks tartan they got off the first run.

I'm happy to make a kilt from tartan that someone supplies, provided that it's 100% wool and suitable for making a trad kilt from. Just PM me, and we can talk.

Thanks Barb and others for the info. I have been in contact with Matt and will send him a sample of the material. I'll post when back when I get a reply from Matt.

Barb's post reminded me -- I make most all of my kilts from heavy weight 100% worsted wool, as well. I do sometimes use other clothes, namely heavy woolen tweeds, like Harris tweed. So if the cloth isn't standard kilt cloth, it will have to be something coparable. I'm more than happy to take a look at any cloth you have, but I'll let you know if it is not suitable for a kilt.
Aye,
Matt

How goes the quest for a kilt with the ultimate accessory - a VW camper? What kind of material do you have? and how much of it? Click on my "handle" and send me an email or a private message (PM).
Take a look at my inventory of homemade kilts and you'll see I like to experiment with different fabrics and prints. Some are handsewn, some are done on a sewing machine, each one is completely unique.
