    First Kilted Hike

After my wife and I hiked about 13 miles last week I swore I'd never hike in jeans again. I've never been so tired and the jeans just felt like they weighed me down. Today we went on a 10 miler and I wore my UK. The weather was perfect, just a little cool but a t-shirt was fine once we got going. We hiked up to see the old Caudill cabin off the Blue Ridge Parkway. I was very comfortable until on the way back I slipped and landed right in the creek. It was getting colder by now, I had about 4 miles to go and I was soaked. However, I took the shirt off, took off walking at a fast pace and I must say, the kilt dried out enough that I was actually warm underneath. I doubt seriously that I could've said the same for jeans.

The picture is me beside what's left of an old cabin by the trail. The cove was decimated by a flood in 1916 and a whole community was washed away that day.

    I agree

One would think that wearing a heavier kilt than what the jeans weigh would be heavier, but I know what you mean. I think it is the freedom and ease in movement.

You look good in the kilt, but then most everyone I have seen in a kilt looks good! ha ha And now we know the kilt dries out quite fast, just incase I ever fall in a creek.

    Thanks for the picture.

Great pic. Visiting sites like that are even better while kilted.

    Great story and pic,

While reorganizing my gallery it struck me how much more hiking I've been doing since I started wearing kilts. Something to do with the freedom I'll bet.

What a great hike you had, creek and all! Kilts just to seem to be a natural for those types of activities.

I can't perceive hiking in anything other than a kilt - just so comfortable and natural.
