    Where did jonesing start??

I have notice that waiting with anticipation for the delivery of a new kilt is referred to as "Jonesing." Where did this particular piece of slang orininate from ?
I have looked at older posts but I can't find what I'm looking for. Anyone care to clue me in.
    Thanks,

    From what I have heard...

It used to be said, that what ever the Jones's had, the neighbor wanted too. Jones being a typical, popular name, I guess. So then it started being called Jonesing, when someone wants something. So if you are Jonesing for a kilt, you want a kilt just like so and so has, and can't wait to get it.

Perhaps someone else has another view on this.

    DALE.

The term is also slang from the drug culture.

jonesing usually starts when you decide to purchase a new kilt.

The only know cure for jonesing is trying on the new kilt the second it arrives.

unfortunatly, this is only a temporary cure, as you are certain to have a relaps should you decide to order kilt-related item.

    The actual and real answer.

There is a street in New York City called Greater Jones St.
In the past this street was famous for it's IV drug user population.
The slang term "to Jones" was used by that population when they needed a fix.
We in the kilt culture adopted it to mean we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new purchase.

    This is the real scoop.

    Thanks,
Check this thread; there's some links to sources as well, I think.

I'm glad I found this site, (Well, Bill put me onto it actually). I though I was alone in my misery, endlessly searching scottish kilt web-sites for more "stuff " to buy. I... must.... accessorize , I..... must.... I'm actually Jonesing right now and the kilt I ordered wasn't even for me it was for my son. (How sad is that?) Did someone mention a 12 step program?

No worries there Rusty. we here at Xmarks have perfected the vicarious jones for those who are unable or unwilling to aquire more kilt related accessories at a particular moment. It is a simple demonstration of the affinity and empathy you have for your fellow kilt wearers.

as for the 12 step program Click here .
Please note that said program differes from the standard 12 step program as this one is designed to encourage further kilt wearing and acquisition and the big book is actually a catalogue of tartans, sporrans and other accessories (with real swatches in the back) - you have been warned

I first made my way to this forum because I was looking for a place where I could vent and warn people about a certain kilt company. (I won't mention the name here because it has been discussed enough, but if I see a newbie asking about them I'll send a PM). Anyhow I had just one kilt at the time. My count is now up to eight, just over two years later. I realized how bad my addiction to kilts was becoming yesterday, when I finished my taxes. Instead of looking at the amount of the refund, I found myself mentally dividing it into the number of casual kilts or tanks I could purchase. So, I agree with the use of jonseing as an addiction.
