    Question Hackles on a Balmoral??

    Hi, guys,

Okay, okay...I have a couple of nice Balmoral caps. I have my clan badge for them. But what about hackles? Are they appropriate for daywear? If so, are they attached with the clan badge?

Please set me straight before I put my ghillie in my mouth...

Traditionally, a hackle is part of a uniform, be it for a pipe band, or a regiment -- for instance, all 6 battalions of the new Royal Regiment of Scotland wear a different colour hackle, the most famous being the Black Watch's Red Hackle. Other regiments wear hackles as well, particularly Fusilier regiments.

Personally, I only wear a hackle as part of a colour party for our St. Andrew's Society when we are called to do a service. But that's just me.

    Cheers,

    Todd
