Saw a kilt today

Was at Ft. Belvoir in Virginia having brunch with my family. Noticed a guy wearing a mostly red tartan pleated to the sett. Didn't get the chance to talk to him, but our waiter, noticing that we were admiring the wonderful view of the Potomac River, mentioned that another table had told him that the view was the best he'd seen in any Officer's Club in the world. Happened to be the guy wearing the kilt. Apparantly, he is a retired colonel and spends half his time in the states and the other half in Scotland. Well, if a senior American military officer can wear a kilt, a junior one like myself should have no problems. Now, if I can just find the cash...

Welcome to the board. You'll find more former and current military types, both officer and non-com, than you can imagine on this board.

Make that first one an affordable one....an "under $100" kilt, and it makes the initial jump easier. Then you can try it out and see what you think. If you like it, then sooner or later you're gonna be jonesing for a tank!

Alan has hit that nail on the head. I highly recommend a USA Kilts casual. Its a casual kilt, but unmistakeable as anything other than a kilt even though they're just a little over $100. You won't be disappointed.

Cool! I actually saw a guy wearing was was close to a kilt in Istanbul the other day (didn't mention that in my post). However if it was actually a kilt it was worn way too long. It looked more like a plaid MUG than anything. The guy with him had on an ankle length sarong-like skirt. Nothing really proper, but still. . .

IF you only knew. I create little Notepad notes on my desktop for plans I come up with. My kilt one starts with one of those eBay ones in Blackwatch, followed by a USA Kilt in my family tartan, and a Stillwater in their Night Stalker tartan. Just waiting for my vacation to end so I can find out my new mailing address.

I also recommend a USAkilt as a first (go for the semi-traditional), a Stillwater Heavy, if the length is right, or, for service members, an Alexis Malcolm military tartan kilt.

It'll all be worth it!
