i have been making kilts for years but i use modern words for everything can anyone tell me what a chaf is is that the buckle x :confused:

sorry i dont hav any pic of my kilts i will model them and put them on this form soon i work for two difrent kiltmakers im a superviser in 1 and a out worker in the other x

How about chape? That's the moving part of the buckle, the piece with the prong that goes through the hole. The buckle is actually the fixed part.
No, I'm not brilliant, I was looking up sheaths to answer the dirk question on another thread when I came across this. It's also the metal piece around the opening of the sheath.
