Kilted newbies sure can be fun!

Was volunteering at a big rugby tournament this weekend. lotta blood sweat & tears (and a few breaks) over the course of the event but a good time was had by all. I did most of it kilted which was a blessing as the cool breezes were greatky appreciated!!!

ANYWAY there was a UTILIKILT stand there with a couple of guys hawking thier wares. very nice stuff - great to finally see so much of the product all in one place & to inspect thoroughly. was supprised by the vastly different weights of the fabrics used for the differing versions from the heavy cotton duck used in the workmans to the very lightweight paoly fabric in thier camo... opens up a wide array of possibilities in my own kilt making knowingthat such disparate fabrics work so well.

ANYWAY the best part of it all was the number of newbies to kilting who went up to the booth and tried them on and finally bought thier first kilts. from the big burly aussies to latino home boys - it was astounding the variety of guys who decided to give it a shot. The UK guys were great at givingthem details about the features of each and making sure they were comfortable with what they were getting into. the funniest part of all was thier reaction to going regimanetal underneat. some took to it like ducks to water - others were not quite ready to take that plunge.
There was a HUGE party last night & at least a dozen of them ventured out in thier kilts for the first time & were enjoying all teh attaention that they got from them & the feeling of freedom. I didnt get a chance to talk up the board here much (the UK guys kept shooing me away whenever i ventured near the booth. All the newbies wanted to know where they could find the ones like i was wearing on the rack and when they heard I made them there were a few slcak jaws and envious eyes) but with any luck we may have a few new visitos here

Now its on to the post tournie drink up/good bye party ... shall i repeat one of the kilts i have already worn or go with the camo thatthey havent seen yet???... decisions decisions

p.s. didnt have my camera with me so no pics to share - SORRY!!!
    ITS A KILT, G** D*** IT!

Great to hear about new recruits to kilting - love them or loathe them, companies like Utilikilt and Mercy Clothing have introduced many new people to kilting.

Another reason to wear a sporran: place to keep the camera for kilt pics.

Camo camo camo...particularly if its a distinctive camo.

One of life's kilted pleasures is hanging out and watching the folks at a UK booth at a festival.

You can see the guys WANT it BAD....but they gotta check it out and ask those questions and not quite be sure how to wear it at first....sorta like two dogs sniffing.

Such a joy to see them beam once kilted.

Once watched two guys spend a looooooong time before supporting each other in taking the plunge. Turned out they were both police detectives!

Definate wild mix of men at a UK booth. Fun fun fun.
