    Lightbulb Sci-Fi Fans?

    Ok , I know this is not really kilt related, but we obviously have quite a few science fiction fans on the forum. It seems kilts and Sci-Fi go together pretty well, I see kilts at cons all the time lately.
    There are several sig lines on the forum with Robert A. Heinlein quotes. For those Heinlein fans, I'm sure you will be interested in a convention honoring his centennial next year in Kansas City, MO.;

    http://www.heinleincentennial.com/index.html

    I'm planning on going, wouldn't it great if we could have a rabble o' kilts at that event! I know its a year away, but I try to plan head!

    If you are in the Houston area, we have a pretty good con coming up this month as well;

    www.apollocon.org

    hope to see you at one of these events!

    Who would have guessed that somebody calling himself Zardoz would be an SF fan?

    These days I seem to be more into fantasy. My tag line comes from JK Rowling. I think I overdosed on Star Trek in the 1990s.

    Zardoz, I am a huge Heinlein fan. I grew up reading him and have quite a collection that I still re-read. I have actually been dabbling in getting a complete set of first editions of his work, including the few he refused to have pubished after the first time.

    I am going to put this date on my calendar. Now, I am going to have to check and see if there are any Games in the general (within 200-300 miles) at that same time.

    KiltedCodeWarrior, Me too! I have read every work of RAH that I can get my hands on. It was a sad day at the Zardoz compound when he passed, but fortunatly, many unreleased works, both fiction and non-fiction have been popping up in the years since his death. I hope to see you in KC!

    I wish I could go, Robert A. Heinlein has always been one of my favorites along with Assimov and Norton. I think I've read just about everything the three of then wrote, and I still pull out the old books and re-read them occasionaly

    See Below

    Imagine Batman in a KILT (with tights PLEASE-I DON"T want to know it he is "regimental") wielding a LIGHTSABER!!

    I've even created my own Star Wars universe culture:

    Planet: Caledon
    Called by peoples: Alba
    Race: Alban (human)

    This planet is characterized by Lightsaber wielding guys in kilts (and belted plaids/great kilts) and blue face paint, a ubiquitious blue shape bearing a large white X, indecipherable writing (think P1M typing quite drunk), an elixer of life called: uisgebethe ("The water of life"), and so forth. You get the idea. By the way, the highest military and intellectual rank is the "Order of the Bat" and wears a bat on thier chest and upon their "stuff" a matter of pride.

    So am I a Sci Fi fan, a batman fan, or just Weird?
    (do I really want an answer?)

    MacWage,

    You should read "The Mote in God's Eye" by Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle. It's a great book, much of it's action takes place on or around the planets New Scotland and New Ireland in the New Caledonia star system.

    Wow, other kilted SF/fantasy junkies! I've been reading and illustrating (and dabbling in writing) the genre most of my life, and the collection of books threatens to outgrow the available space constantly. I try to read at least two or three novels per week (amazing how much one can read during lone lunches and such). As long as this is the topic, here's a sample of my SF art:

    Anyway, Zardoz was played by Sean Connery and he regularly wears a kilt; so is that kilted justification enough for the thread so far?
