    Scottish movie accuracy?

Here, I am refereing to movies that take place in Scotland.

    To top the list:
BRAVEHEART, as we all know, is none to tight with the historical record-on this I could go on and on (WHERE IN H**L did those kilts/plaids come from?), yet-
THERE IS no better move to stir the Scottish soul (just ask the Scottish parliament, which owes its existance to this flick)

Trainspotting- Supposed accurate account of heroine addicts in Edinburgh

Rob Roy- similar release time to Braveheart, but MUCH more accurate form a look/costume/setting/design perspective. The story is based on the many legends surrounding Rob Roy, not necessarily the reality. For example, Killearn dies (at the hand of Mary MacGregor) in movie, yet the actual John Graham younger of Killearn served in parliamentin 1722-1727 (after the period of the movie was to have ended).

Formula 51/51st State takes place in England->Liverpool precisely, thus is not Scottish, despite Samuel L. Jackson's kiltwearing throughout the movie.

What else is out there, and how historically accurate is it?

    Scottish movies

What else is out there, and how historically accurate is it?
INMHO, that would be Tunes of Glory, starring John Mills and Sir Alec Guiness -- based on the novel of the same name by James Kenneway (he also wrote the screenplay), it is the story of a post-WWII Scottish battalion and one of the most accurate in regards to the Highland regiments -- and many, many kilts, sporrans, bonnets, pipes, whisky, etc.

It is my all-time favourite movie, bar none.

    Cheers,

    Todd

I loved Rob Roy and Braveheart.Very good stories. But, they are obviously, dramatisations of the true, historical facts. But, very well done.
Trainspotting. Hmmm....Wasn't Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi) in that flick? I don't like movies about drugs and dope. They are pointless, and usually don't have a real story. I tried watching it a few times, but was easily bored. Glad I never spent any money to go see it or rent it.

Whiskey Galore Is a fav of mine

    Mrs Brown was great too.

Although how accurate they are I don't know. Historical accuracy has never been a strong point of film makers. It's a film therefore I class it as entertainment not a historical documentary

You mean there were really werewolves in Scotland?
