$389.50 Leather Kilt from SportKilt

Just noticed on the SportKilt website that they're offering leather now. "Buttery soft".

Has anyone seen this offering and have any feedback on it. Only one pic on their website. Black seems the only color. Looks like their sewn down pleat pattern in a leather.

I was >< this close to buying a leather kilt a few years ago (it would have been my first, then) during a local leather festival weekend. It was not exactly like buttah, but it was soft and pliable and very sturdy at the same time (a lot like me). It fit me beautifully. I hesitated. I went back the next day. They were gone. I drove two hours to Columbus later in the week to their store. They did not keep my appointment. I left, kiltless.

I still want one, but now my priorities have changed.

<sigh>

Leather Kilts are the height of the addiction Rex...I have two, RKilt Saffron and UK Brown. Could have probably bought THREE tanks for that money and a LOT more knock around kilts.

Maybe CT can soon tell us what these new SportKilt leather's are like.

Aye Ron, that I can do. The Premier line was James' (of SK) Idea, using leather was mine. My leather stock was smoother and thinner than what he had.
I'm excited now.

As the proud owner of six real leather kilts (TFCK, R.Kilts,UnionKilts, and Utilikilts), I'd very much like to hear reports of this one. Thus far, my opinion of SportKilts has not been too good.

First and foremost this is the prototype of their Premier line leather kilts.
Thus they learned a lot and it needs a bit of work to make it perfect but it's not a bad start. If and or when you order one make sure to specify buckles and straps, no velcro or they'll build it the way they're used doing them.
The pleats are sewn down the edge top to bottom to hold the shape or they'd require constant pressing which I'm not sure how you'd do with leather.
The weight is decent, not too heavy but a belt is probably a must.
I haven't pulled a tape on it yet but the apron is a little bit narrow for my taste by about 2 inches it appears.
I'm taking it out tonight for a private viewing and I'll let you know what she thinks.
KC Leatherworks is gonna get a call about making a matching vest for me.

CT - I know you want pictures but I ain't got 'em yet ...

ps: Best part of the deal was since I supplied the leather and the place to get same my cost was about $280. your milage may vary.

And that is my problem with Sportkilts. Great ideas, TERRIBLE execution. You are paying nearly $400.00 for a kilt. Make it right. Dont cheap on the details.
If something is supposed to be your 'premier line', then make it so by god! Use real buckles, use real snaps. Forget about velcro or an elastic waist. It should not be the customers duty to tell the kilt maker:

"Oh, and please dont put velcro on my $400.00 LEATHER kilt, can you please add $3.50 worth of straps and buckles please?"

What other caveats are we expected to know and ask about before we order this thing?

Its like Filet Mignon with ketchup, or a Ferrari with tires from Wal-Mart.

(sorry, I know you dont have anything to do with their processes, I'm just venting)
