Hi all
I received my PhD from Queen's University Belfast on Monday 3rd July on what must have been (for Northern Ireland anyway) the hottest day of the year. The Chancellor of Queen's University is the US Senator George Mitchell, with whom I was delighted to shake hands, due to his efforts to bring the communities in Northern Ireland together.
Despite going commando, I felt like I was in a sauna. The outside air temperature must have been at least 30 degrees centigrade and I had a HEAVY doctoral gown on, together with my kilt jacket. There is something to be said for cold weather ( I had a graduation from Edinburgh University in January 2005 where the weather was freezing, but the kilt outfit was perfectly comfortable).
What really surprised me was that NOT one other male graduate was wearing a kilt. There have always been a sprinkling of Scottish graduates from Queens, but none of them were in evidence this time around.
Anyway, the pics are attached. Hope you like em!
