REMINDER: Arizona Highland Celtic Festival, 15 & 16 July
For you X Markers in the Southwest, don't forget that the following weekend, July 15 & 16th, is the Arizona Highland Celtic Festival in Flagstaff. A great way to escape the Summer heat.

At 7000' elevation, they really put the "high" in Highland Festival!
This will be their 9th festival & the first to cover 2 days.
Who's planning on going?
.

Well, with the recent change in Honeymoon plays from Utah to the Grand Canyon, I have FULL plans of going to these games. This will be my first Highland Games, and I can't wait.

I have to be in Arizona that week-end but I will be in Phoenix for a reunion with guys I haven't seen in 30 years of more, maybe next time though, I have a grandson in Williams and that would be a great place to take him.
Let me know when the next games will be held there, will you?
Chris.

I'm driving down from Page to SHOP! Raid the vendors! Get IMMEDIATE delivery! on Saturday morning and afternoon.
Then headed over to Hopiland to see my lady. She's on call at the hospital in Polacca over the weekend and can't get to Flagstaff.
Plan on wearing my Cameron Black and Red from Kathy's Kilts with a black shirt. So if you see an old guy that looks like this, its me.
I'll probably be carrying bags of "stuff." Look in the vendors area or around the clan tents IF....I can find a place to park and hike to the event without getting heat stroke or hit by lightning.

Punk Rock Bagpiper at Flagstaff Games
I picked up a copy of the Flagstaff counterculture paper The Noise this weekend. But just read it.
In a column by a music critic is this:
"One of the neat universal things about subcultures is that there's always so much more than whatever most people are presented with....
Bagpiping is no different. In fact, bagpiping and punk go hand in hand. Both are often covered in tartan plaid; both are neat ways to express your hatred for imperialism. I'm pretty sure Guiness factors in well for both, too, bu that's just a solid beer for anybody. Thinly drawn comparisons aside, there's this kid named Michael Donelson that lives right her in our rapidly urbanizing city that can play the bagpipes like Milli Vanilli played the record industry. I never thought I would get to describe bagpiping as something that you could thrash to, bu this kid could convince me to stick a huge battleaxe into someone's face.
Remember the scene in Braveheart where everyone moons the British before they go completely nuts and lay waste to everything that stands before them? That's like Michael Donelson's playing.
On top of that, he's only fifteen! What were you doing when you were fifteen? You were trying to deal with hormone surges and awkward phases and you probably weren't doing a very good job. This kid could be inspiring armies, terifying SWAT units, and causing cars to spontaneously combust. He's been playing since he was nine and he shreds like Ted Nugent. Unlike the Nuge; however, Michael Donelson is playing the Arizona Highland Celtic Festival on July 15 & 16 in Foxglenn Park."
What the critic didn't mention is that Michael has also been winning awards for his piping since age 10.
Never heard his music...but this weekend....
If you were thinking about coming...this is one more reason.

I think that would be so nice - to spend an entire day totally surrounded by other kilted guys and being able to actually enjoy my kilt instead of feeling like I am "on stage" with everyone staring at me.....
In time I won't feel this way but I really only was out a few times in public walking around until my old tired body gave out on me. After all, I have only had my first kilt for a few days.
I had to run around all over the first weekend to see if I really had the "stomach" for this - then I ordered more kilts.
