Help with color coordination

[Irish in Tacoma]

OK guys, need your help. My one and only kilt is a Moran family special weave, with the base color green. Since getting it, I've found that I'm having a heck of a time matching it to anything. I wore it for the first time to a St Patrick's Day party, with black polo shirt and white socks, which came out OK. For the Highland Games coming up, I will probably wear it with a white Jakobite shirt, but I'm looking for other shirt/hose combinations to wear for everyday use.

I know some of the rules of thumb (match shirt to hose, etc), but as I look through all the pictures, I don't find very many examples of this color green. The Irish National is probably the closest.

Any help will be appreciated.

As odd as it may sound, I'd try red or yellow. The stripe colors.

Plain leather sporrans are cheap. You can pick them up for less than $20

It's a wonderful tartan, but you're right it's not the easiest to combine, because of the light colors.

You can go or dark...or really soft colors.

Dark is easy...will make the kilt the focus point.
darker shades of grey and blue ....dark green. Burgundy or brick red will look stunning also. For a nice outdoor look...tabacco brown, dark khaki.

Lighter colours can be tricky, but white, off white, cream, beige and pale yellow and blue will go fine.

Avoid light green...

Finding matching hose is a never ending quest,,,fun though

Also...find solid flashes...matching the purple-red stripe.

For dress occasions...it's a great tartan...it will really stand out when you wear a black dress jacket (Argyll or Prince Charlie)...no problems there!

It can be nice to add brown leather (belt, sporran, sporran strap, shoes) to your wish list. Brown leather is fantastic for casual and will look very classy.

A small note...I guess the sporran is a "standard" size...it seems you're a big bloke...it looks a bit small. A bigger sporran will look better imho. A Freelander or a sporran from Leathersporrans will look great.

Yes, brown goes very well with greens. Then you can look for oatmeal or green hose, which gives you the option of wearing them casually pulled down /hiking shoes/boots too. Believe me, a white/pale hose pulled down does not look good (!)
