Sad responsibility
I had the sad responsibility today of having to put my old dog, Tippy, to sleep. I know that a few of you have shared your experiences with this sort of thing in the past...I hope that you will indulge me here as this has been a really emotional thing for me.
Tippy was with us for seventeen years and was adopted from the Chicago Anti-Cruelty Society...she was one hell of a great recommendation for adopting a cast-off dog at your local shelter. One of those scruffy black and white "terrier mix" types that you find now and again.
She was a valiant protector of the household, great with the kids and an inveterate chaser of the odd rabbit that would dare to find its way onto the property. She will be missed.
Best
AA

My condolonces on your loss.
IF IT SHOULD BE ....
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, can’t be won.
You will be sad, I understand
Don’t let your grief then stay your hand
For this day, more than the rest
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We’ve had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You’d not want me to suffer so
When the time comes, please let me go
I know in time you will see
It is a kindness you do to me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve it should be you
Who has to decide this thing to do
We’ve been so close – we two these years
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

Seventeen years, wow, you were lucky to have her in your life for so long.
I just got my dog spayed, and even seeing her recovering is hard on me, I really feel for what you are going through. I'm sure you know you did best though, better that than she suffer.
Southern Breeze, very cool poem.

AA,
If you didn't feel sad it would mean that Tippy wasn't really a member of your family. All every dog wishes to be is part of a pack , a family.
It sounds like she was a very good member of yours and will be missed.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Dogs can touch our hearts in so many ways, sometimes they can be closer to us than even another human.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss
A dog is never too busy to listen, always ready to be there for you, always forgiving, and never judgemental.
Truly man's best friend.

Both Elaine and myself are so sorry to hear your news AA. There are no words I can say here .. as you may know we lost our two dogs earlier this year and its totally gut wrenching beyond belief. We still get upset even now. Our thoughts are with you.
Take care now
