    I'd rather be in Philadelphia...

So....I was walking over to my mom and dads' the other day through the South Loop area here in Chicago...wearing the USA Kilts Casual...and here comes this guy walikng the other way and he sez:

    "Hey! You're from Scotland!"

    "No! I'm from Chicago!"

    "No, I mean the kilt."

    "The kilt's from Philadelphia."

    Oh, Cisco! Oh, Pancho!

I don't undertand/get the Cisco and Poncho reference. Not older enough I guess

When I first read the title I thought of WC Fields.

I'd rather be in Philadelphia is part of a line from WC Fields

Cisco and Pancho are characters from the TV show The Cisco Kid from back in the 60's. It was a "Lone Ranger" or "Zorro" genre folk hero.

"I would rather be living in Philadelphia" was, indeed, the epitaph that W.C. Fields once quipped that he would write for himself. Couldn't help it...

Cisco and Pancho loomed large in my childhood. Duncan Renaldo and Leo Carillo...and it's worth looking into the life of Leo Carillo. Carillo has sort have been painted as the human version of the "Frito Bandito" - a stereotype of a mexican character - but Californians probably recognize him as a real renaissance man and a historical preservationist.

I just felt that the kilt almost makes the snappy retorts come more quickly. I had a lot of comments the other day...the funny part to me is that most people seemed to think that I was from out of town...I'm usually the guy who's helping the lost and befuddled tourists find their way around!

No...but they did end every show with a lame joke after which they would sit back in their saddles and say, "Oh, Pancho!" "Oh, Cisco!" and ride off into the sunset.

Just thought that I had to emphasize the ad-lib funniness of the encounter and the allusion to a TV series from my past seemed appropriate.

I didn't espect the Spanish Inquisition....ooops...here we go again...
