scottishclansman.com questions
What experiances have ya'll had with them?
I ordered my first kilt from them back in april (24th I think) at our highland games here in arkansas. My buddy ordered his at the same time, both for his wedding, each one in our own family tartan. So far they have been pretty good about answering emails sent to them, but not calling us with the numbers they took like they were SUPPOSED to if they had problems. Neither of us are very happy with them right now. Each one of us (they have no clue we even know each other) have emailed them and got diff excuses.
I was just wondering what gripes ya'll have had with them. Only good thing so far is they do answer emails.

big mistake. The kilt I ordered from them took 10-11 months to show up, and I had to file a better business bureau complaint to get it. Do a search on clansmen knitwear, you'll see all kinds of complaints.
overall, don't buy from them. You will get about the same results from Clansmen Knitwear as if you stick a sheep under your pillow at night and wish it turns into a kilt by morning.

Never ordered from them. But, judging from what others have said. NO FREAKIN' WAY!

Only way I'll do business with them is at a games when I can see the goods, pay for it then and take it with me.
My last order for five pair of kilt hose and two flashes they assured me the goods were in stock and they would ship right away.
A month later they shipped the goods - or rather had Locharron's warehouse in Kearsarge N.H. drop ship them to me....one reason I'd ordered was that they are in California and I thought with the reasurrance and short travel distance I'd have the goods sooner.
They were not real honest with their statement that the goods were in stock and would go out in a short time.
Two years ago I ordered two pair of kilt hose from them and a Macdonald clan t-shirt. That took only three weeks for them to ship and when the t-shirt arrived it had a raven on it and not the common Macdonald clan crest. When I called the guy insisted up and down that the raven was the common Macdonald clan crest...I've since found its used by a small branch, but not the common mailed fist holding a cross. Worse, someone folded the t-shirt while the "Macdonald" imprint was still wet so there's a reverse, upside down reflection of the imprint on the shirt.
This vendor's record of honesty falls far short for me.
Hopefully, you will have better results, but I fear they are well practiced at their "craft."
Usually, you can have any two of price, quality, and service...other than buying at their game's booths these folks are 0 for all 3 with me.

decently made, but far too large for me. I'd say at the tightest on the straps it is a good 6 inches too large. The kilt is machine-stiched. Holds together ok, but hard to wear due to it's size.

I know a lot of folk have had trouble, but don't despair.
Before I joined Xmarks, I bought 2 kilts from them. One made to measure. It was for Christmas and came mid-January. The other one of their already made kilts (presumably made for someone who didn't buy it in the end). That arrived promptly.
Both kilts are very well made (Locharran) and I have been very pleased with them.
I just hope you get them in time for the wedding!

You have to keep contacting them to get anything done. Ralph comes across as a nice guy but he just doesn't get it done. Mine only took 3 months but then I was calling them or emailing them every week or less for the last month. I too would only puchase something from them if I was holding it in my hands. And after the quality I saw of some of thier stuff...maybe not then. My kilt isn't bad. It is the one I wear the most. The Stillwater Blackwatch heavyweight is just too warm for the summer.

You mentioned their kilts are from Lochcarron, if this is the case, their normal delivery time is 8 to 12 weeks.

Yes, that's right. When I ordered my kilt Ralph said it would take 12 weeks. The 12 weeks took us to 1 week before Christmas. So it was touch and go. As it happens, it took another 3 weeks because of the long Christmas break in Scotland.
