    the three-dollar sgian dubh

I scored this little baby for three lousy bucks at the Gig Harbor Renaissance Faire. Like I wrote earlier, the guys handling luggage at Southwest Airlines inspected my bags and took the sheath, but not the knife. However, an hour with a belt that's way too small for me, an X-acto knife, a hammer and a sharp nail, and some stout buttonhole thread, and I've got a new sheath that's nearly as good looking as the old one.

Anyway, I'm trying out the macro setting on this digital camera, and I thought you all might get a kick out of my sgian dubh. I wasn't ever going to buy one, though I thought I might MAKE one for a project someday, but for three lousy bucks, I had to spring for it. This knife is six inches long; blade and handle.

    Alan,

You see those at a lot of Renaissance Faires. The quality of the metal is pretty poor but they are handsome. Three bucks is best price I've ever heard for one of them. I'd say you got a good deal.

    Cheers

Pakistan, and stainless? Rat-tail tang? (although not as critical on a knife), but for three bones, it's not bad... first it's a dagger, so it wouldn't be subjected to the kind of use that make other blades break. Stainless isn't bad on knives, depending on size...and lastly, it's very unlikely that you would ever need to draw/use it. For three bucks I would have bought it too.
