What item, besides kilts, are you associated with?

The kilts I wear are often something that stick in people's minds about my appearance, but today I found out there's something else besides the kilt that people know: my hat.

I wear a green felt fedora, sort of like Indiana Jones' hat but with a wider brim. It's got a lanyard and a chainmail hatband I made. If I'm going outside, I've got that hat on. I wear it more than I wear my kilts.

Well, it's finally starting to become deformed. It's a very rugged, heavy duty hat, but all things have their limits. So I've stopped wearing it until I can see if I can reshape it.

I went to my wife's place of work to bring her coffee, and she told me later in the day that her co-workers did't recognize me at first without the hat.

So, does anyone else have any items which are very much identified with them?

No items in particular, I just get asked landscape related questions when people see me.

My moustache, my man-purse (currently a shoulder bag, while most past incarnations for the last twenty years have been clutches), and at the office also my coffee cup, which includes a saucer, and my water glass, which is actually heavy glass stemware and quite large.

My VP disclosed to me the other day that while he and his team were deliberating which candidate to hire for my position, I was known in a Seinfeldian way as "Moustache Guy." The first words out of the mouth of my future boss, who is from India, on meeting me for the first time were "I like your moustaches." I replied, "Thank you. Nobody ever forgets me." I later learned that he had made his hiring decision within the first five minutes of meeting me. Others from India also respond to my moustache rather positively, I have discovered.

My glass has come to be known as my chalice, and occasionally as the Holy Grail in my current workgroup, and was the subject of much amusement behind my back among my former coworkers at my last job.

These objects, along with my kilt, are my personal affectations, and surely cause people to label me as odd.

    I don't really care.

    Regards,
    Rex in Cincinnati

Mine is probably my car. Mainly, because it is so distinct (and visible from a distance) . Must be the 17 inch wide DOT/School bus yellow stripe  . For all of you F1 fans, it is painted in Lotus Racing Green, with a wide Lotus Racing Yellow stripe  . The seats and door panels are an autheticly toned RED with back carpets, dash, etc.

Two things, I guess. First would be my leather notebook, from Oberon Designs. It has a gorgeous oak tree on it, with fields stretching beyond. I'm sort of a compulsive note taker: lists of all kinds, thoughts on the day, haiku, weather data, funny things I hear, you name it. My friends all call it "T's wee book". I'm also known for my Gerber that is always on my belt. Again, my friends (especially of the female variety) love yelling out for "T's tool" in public places. But hey, I've always got a screwdriver when they need one.

My hat collection. In this I'm the Anti-Hamish. I have about 25+ hats and most often sport one when out and about. My kilt wearing has limited which parts of my collection I can wear because some hats just don't work with kilts(Top hat, Bolero, Fedora). Only one thing to do, BUY MORE HATS ( let's see I need a Balmoral, an Irish Cauberdeen, a couple more tweed caps, a half dozen berets, some tams...)

    Cheers

Panache, what style of fedora? There are four or five distinct looks that fit under the label of "fedora."

But I have to agree, a topper would look a bit odd with a kilt.

I know that in the summer I always wear shorts or a kilt, now. I am also wearing sandals or going barefoot in the summer too. I am always the one that has band aids in my wallet. People always just say, that figures! Or I might be the one who usually knows the answer to something going on around the area, or who to contact if I don't.
