Great time at the Irish Pub

My son left for Ireland today for a week of vacation, so my wife and I, and my son and his girlfriend celebrated last evening at Paddy Malone's, our local Irish pub. I wore my Ireland's National, and the owner of Paddy's recognized it immediately (has one himself).

There must have been at least a dozen people, men and women, who came over to our table to tell me how nice my kilt looked. Great food. They have a hamburger called a Paddy Melt that is advertized at 1/2 pound. Their scales must be off, because this burger was at least 3/4 of a pound after cooking. We all drank Irish beers - lighter beers for my wife and my son's girlfriend - Guiness, of course for me and my son. Plenty of Irish music (including bagpipes) and singing.

The decor is fantastic. I really liked a picture of an Irish piper in full regalia (wearing a kilt of course). At the top of the picture it said "Call to Arms," and under the piper is said "Irishmen, do you hear the call?"

So at about 2 AM tomorrow morning (Ireland time), my son's plane lands in Shannon, Ireland - another Kennedy will set foot on the land of his ancestors.

    Awesome!

I've seen that picture. The piper's wearing a solid colour kilt no? Saffron maybe? I can't remember. I saw it poster sized on an Ebay auction.

I WILL set foot there myself some day.

    Irish poster...

The poster in question is an WWI-era recruiting poster, and it does show a piper of an Irish Regiment in a saffron kilt, with the regimental mascot, an Irish wolfhound, and a contingent of troops march under the "Green Flag" of Ireland. If I remember right, the piper's pipe ribbons are in St. Patrick's Blue.

I can't find a graphic of it at present, but I think I have one saved somewhere on my computer.

    Regards,

    Todd

Now that was a night to remember. But you ordered a Hamburger with your Guinness? Were they out of Irish Stew?

That's the picture, thanks Tat. I forgot about the hound. Nice to see the colors better -lighting was low in the bar.

Only "painful" part of the evening was my wife's punching me in the shoulder - and all I did was suggest that she catch a bug that flew onto our table, dip it in some ranch dressing that came with our celery sticks and do a taste comparison. That was during the 3rd Guiness - I think
