    Kilts and Steam Trains

During my holiday last week I rode on the Jacobite Steam Train

To Mallaig Harbour where the ferry leaves for the Isle of Skye

Besides two or three kilted passengers, this young piper wore a MacDonald kilt and played during the stops at Glenfinnan and at Mallaig.

Today being the final day of my holiday I visited the Locomotion museum at Shildon, near Darlington in the north-east of england, where I photographed the City of Truro, which in 1903 became the first steam locomotive to travel faster than 100 miles per hour.

Close to the City of Truro was this small collection of pipers and drummers, playing at the museum entrance, despite the rain.

Huh.....wow...I have the HO version of that City of Truvo engine! That's the set that I always refer to as my favorite and gets taken out and run once a year at Christmas. Nice to see the full scale one being as it's over there and I'm over here. Thanks for the pics.

I want to ride the "Jacobite" kilted!

Steam trains are in my blood and my late father was a real engine driver in the good old days of steam.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

A day out at Bo'ness would be a great excuse to get kilted up! It'd make for some great pictures.

I've travelled kilted on the Bo'Ness & Kinneil Railway several times. I can see a Hogmanay kilts meet at Bo'Ness looming on the horizon. They are planning to run Black Bun specials on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st December.

Great minds, cessna!! Just been on the phone to my Mum, we're planning to go on the 30th with my Grandad on one of the Black Bun specials. Hoping my Grandad will wear his kilt too!
