Opinions Wanted-> Dress Sporrans
I am making a sporran or two. One of them is a black and white fur one made to look like a shunk. The cut is like a Buzz Kidder leather one, but fur finished rather than leather. It WILL NOT have a head/mask. I was wondering if a non-mask fur sporran is considered "dressy" enough for formal wear. A masked fur spurran is for day or formal wear (whether it is good taste or not is a matter of debate-> which I'd rather not get into on the thread, if you don't mind ladies and gentlemen). Is the presence of the head necessary?
This matter is relavent as some do not object to fur, but do object to the head. Is a headless sporran just as good (formal) as a masked one?
OR Is a headless one neither fish nor fowl? OK for daywear, but not quite dressy enough for formal?
Opinions wanted!
THIS IS FOR A FUR ONE WITHOUT ANY SILVER!!!!!! JUST FUR!!!!

From what I've observed in my web surfing, non-full mask fur sporrans are considered dress sporrans. So, if you wear your skunk fur sporran for a formal occasion no one should raise a "stink" about it. :rolleyes:
Sounds like you're envisioning something like this.

CLOSE, but with the fur going onto the top flap too, so no leather is visible.I will also not have any tassles. JUST fur.

I'd say that fur is fur for dress. I'm working on a red fox w/o the mask but in a silver cantled version. Very similar to most rabbit sporrans. I like the look of the silver with the fur. O'Neille

The plain leather strap (as in the photo) does reduce the level of formality IMHO.
I think your "all fur" idea would probably work... although perhaps slightly inconventional.

I think it would look great.
All the fur only (no head) sporrans I have seen have been classified as formal, and they certainly look the part to my eye.

Well, since you wanted opinions, here's one!
I think an all-fur no mask sporran would look great (we definitely want pictures when you git-r-done) but I don't know about formal . Dress, yes , but I think for formal you would need a silver cantle with the fur. But, that's just an opinion!

I have no idea what the Buzz Kidder sporran looks like, but I think if you made yours along the lines of any of the ones below I totally think your sporran would be dressy/formal enough for any event.
Now of course I not saying yours shoud be exactly like the ones above, but to me they give the idea of what a formal sporrun should look like.
