    Fun Kilted Weekend.

Over the weekend, my wife and I had lots of stuff to get, so we are ready for Halloween (it's going to be our 4 year anniversary), so we went shopping at the WallMart. I wore my Black Uk and Nightstalker Sporran. We went first thing in the morning (because I don't like crowds), as we were walking around I was getting looks because of my Kilt (or because I'm a foot or so taller than my wife ). I see this guy and his wife pointing at me, I didn't think much of it and kept on shopping. After getting around the store, I see the same guy and his family again, well this time he walks up to me. He asks me who made my kilt, I told him it was an Utilikilt, he asks "is it a local place", "No, it's in Seatle, you'd have to order online", "Thanks" he says and walks away. He tells his wife and I over hear her saying "that's the kind of kilt you want right? that looks good". I've never been aproached before and asked about my kilt, must be because I'm shaving my head now .
That was on Saturday, today I go shopping with my dear ol' Mom for groceries. I wore the same kilt. As we were walking around I see these 3 teenage girls also shopping (they were like 17/18 years old). I was getting bread, when I over hear giggling, not "HAHA", but more like "T-he he". I try to look like I don't notice them, and their not so quiet whispers. Then I hear "That looks Sexy" Holy Crap, they think I look sexy in my kilt. I did everything I could not to smile, but I did walk away as cool as I could , they made sure to walk by me again before they left. That made me feel like this whole kilt thing might be worth it .

Wal*Mart and grocery stores..... two places frequented by a motly mix of folk from every walk of life. Like the "box of chocolates".....

I was worried for you when you mentioned the teenage girls. Seems they're always the ones that don't know how to react and so just giggle incessantly.

Glad that you got to overhear that comment though

Good stuff. I second Blu's sentiment about the grocery/wal mart stores.

It warms my heart to hear stories like that.

On the weekend at church I was having a conversation with two people I had just met, a man and a woman. I told them I was wearing my kilts everywhere outside of work because they are more comfortable, I was forced to wear pants for 50 years, and I felt it was time for a change. The woman said she loved them and hoped they became more popular (we have three kilted guys in our church now). The man said, "I admire your strength of character that you can do this, but I'm not wearing one, not in a million years"

So.....two different people, two different points of view - and I think those are in line with what other people on this forum have been reporting - a great deal of guys will just never go this way.

Later in the afternoon I took my ex wife out to dinner (I had a gift card I wanted to use and I hate eating alone) and I think she was surprised that wearing a kilt in public was such a non-issue. People were saying, "Yes sir, can we help you sir?"

Sunday was a good day.....but then I think every day I get to wear my kilt is a good day.
