    Mini-rabble of Kilts

TheSp8 (Tony) and A_Hay! and our wives had a chance to meet this afternoon at the Grafenwoehr Holiday Bazaar. Tony looked very comfortable in in SWK Saffron Kilt and I'm in my Christmas outfit of Ancient Hay with lovat green jacket.

It was fun to find out more about them and their travels in Scotland (They said they had a great time in Ferintosh in Dumfries. Gotta put that on our vacation list).

They are leaving Germany soon, so this may have been our only chance for hello and goodbye. We wish them well in his new assignment.

The bazaar had over 80 vendors this year. My wife bought several nativity scenes that are made in a missionary activity in a very poor village in Poland (Elim is the name of the activity). We also bought 10 packages of Dutch windmill cookies (Speckulaas) for family and friends for Christmas. Also some spicy Dutch mustard and some cheese. There were many other nice european products and crafts, but we have been over here a long time and have most everything we could want, and more than we need.

While Tony and I were talking, a young soldier and his wife came up and asked where we got our kilts. We gave him the X Marks the Scot web address so he may be a new member soon. One of the vendors was formerly from Scotland and asked about my kilt. Another vendor makes nutcrackers and will custom make one for you if you supply the tartan. He had a couple of pictures and a barstool made like a scotsman with kilt.

Couple of people took pics also. Some were people I know.

All in all, it was a pleasant kilted outing.

Best wishes to TheSp8 and his wife.
    Tom

    A mini-rabble is a good thing.

It was a good day all around. I did feel a little under dressed just wearing a pull over shirt next to that fine jacket and tie combo. It was both festive and good looking. He also showed off his Cavscout belt that was a fine looking bit of leather work. The fellow we got to take our pictures asked how close to get with the picture. Almost on cue all of us told him he had to get the kilts.

That soldier was the first time anyone had come up asking where I had gotten a kilt. Later in the day another guy asked where I had gotten my kilt. As we stood talking he said his home was about a mile and a half away from the UK offices. I gave him the address for this fine group of folks. He said he had seen A_Hay! earlier and thought he was a British officer. We did see some friends only because the folks they were with made a comment about there being a man in a skirt and they figured it had to be me.

We are about bazaared out after 4 years. We did buy some 30+ year old pewter cups with hunting scenes all around it. I also got a variety pack of Dutch beer to try.

It was well worth the drive to meet A_Hay! and his lovely wife. I hope Tom and his wife continue to enjoy their time in Grafenweohr.

    YMOS,
    Tony
