    Black Watch Pipers Kilts 1920's-1950

    Hullo all
I am looking for documentation on the type of pleats used in The Black Watch regiment Piper's Kilts around the period of the Second World War. Bob Martin in his "All About your Kilt" shows P/M Roy's Kilt as having Knife (or Side) pleats while Officer's and OR's Kilts have Barrel (or Cane) pleats. I am trying to find out if Pipers had Barrel pleats during this period like the rest of the Regiment.
    Ta very much...

I'm under the impression that the Black Watch officers where issued kilts with patterns all over the place: Both regimental box and knife line pleated. If we keep to Piper's kilts then knife pleated Royal Stewart..

Not sure this is what you are looking for but here is a photo of a Black Watch kilt from 1943 which I posted on another thread earlier this year.
Regional Director for Scotland for Clan Cunningham International, and a Scottish Armiger.

Neither looks to be a piper.

Well, of course. It's clear in the message that they are reenactors. We don't know the occupations of the previous occupants of the featured kilt, which is said to have been made around the time of interest to the original poster, "Iain Dubh."

The question was "type of pleats used in The Black Watch regiment Piper's Kilts". The tartan used in the regalia of Black Watch pipers during WW-II was not Black Watch (No. 1) but Royal Stewart.
(even as soldiers their outfits are not terribly historically accurate)

    Hi guys, how's things?

Now maybe I am just being overly-cautious here, but I'm starting to sense a bit of tension building, in this thread.

Nanook, let me welcome you to X Marks. From some of your submissions, it would seem you've both studied and worn the kilt for some time. You might want to pop into the Kilt Board Newbie forum and post an introduction, so everyone will get the opportunity to greet you and welcome you.
