Long Tailed T Shirts, Henleys, Polos, et.al.

Like Big Dave, wasn't sure where to post this. Just got a catalog from Duluth Trading Company. They specialize in contractor's type clothing but are dedicated to eliminating "plumber's crack."

They offer a wide variety of t shirts, henleys, polos etc and they are all made with an extra 3 inches in length over normal length shirts.

While the extra length might avoid plumber's crack thought it would also provide shirts more like the long ones of olden days of yore when longer shirt tails protected the inside of kilts from ourselves.

Has anyone tried the Duluth Trading Company shirts?

Another tip -- many shirts are available in an "extra-tall" or "tall" size. I know some folks who buy these even if they are not extra-tall themselves, just because they like the longer length in the shirt tails. A shop keeper in a clothing store across the street from our museum wears extra-tall fitting shirts because he is often reaching above his head for items on high shelves, and he got tired of his shirt coming untucked when he reached up above his head. But it works great for wear with a kilt, as well.

Been wearing Duluth's Long Tailed Shirts for two or three years now.

    http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/d...tion=dept_left

Bought them for just the reason suggested.
And they add a little something extra in the cooler weather.
On me they end around mid-thigh.
Mine have all held up well. Still wearing them all.

I've bought several items from Duluth over a span of a decade or so, never had any problems with them.

Had my eye on the "long tail" stuff, too - they just never had the right color/ style combo to get me to buy.

I have been looking through their catalog for some time now. Specifically at the FOM flannel shirts and rugby shirts as well as what they call their "AWOL"bag, looks like some really good stuff, its just i dont often buy clothes.

    Why long?

I'm a bit confused about the desire. While I wear long sized shirts (longer arms and they are often cut trimmer in the waist) they are not quite optimal, I think, for traditional kilts. Longer cut woolen undershirts are great but they are snug fitting in contrast to cotton shirts. Kilts go up to the ribs--- or at least above the naval--- and fit snug. Longer length is just more crunched up heavy cotton oxford cloth (lightweight shirting cloth does create a visual balance to 2+ kg of heavy woolen cloth in kilt). Optimal (outdoor winter wear) is a heavy woolen under-shirt with a properly fitting tunic (again they are quite snug in the British tradition) but its a bit too military a look. All that's missing is some incarnation of neck sock. :-)

Ideal, I think, would be a bib front shirt with laces... but where to find.. and not to appear to be an actor escaped from a Victorian drama.

I have several "Long-tail" shirts; I like 'em. I've bought a few thing from Duluth, and I've always been impressed by the quality of what I got; I just wish they'd use real pics in their catalogs. I don't really like trusting hand-drawn pics when I buy; they'd get more of my business with photos.
