Do you have family connections to any of them? It's not required, but it would make the purchase a bit more special.
After you buy it, I'd be interested in your review. I don't think the pleats are sewn down to the hips on the economy models, are they?

ALL Clan / Country affiliations aside...
What colors do you wear most often? What colors do you look best in?
If you look good in / wear a lot of Red (especially shirts) or black shirts with Red Writing, I'd say go for the Wallace. Also, it's a "stronger" tartan, so you have to enjoy wearing color.
If you look good in / wear a lot of Green / white / gold, get an Irish National.
If you look good in / wear Navy or dark green or just like darker colors, go with Blackwatch.
Bottom line... YOU are the one wearing it! If you have a favorite color or have a LOT of t-shirts with a certain color in them, try to pick a tartan that will match the rest of your wardrobe the best.

If this were me I'd go with Wallace. Here's my logic.
The Economy kilt is going to be or end up a "knock around" kilt. No need to get one in a tartan you will eventually want to wear later.
Blackwatch you can get virtually anywhere.
Irish National is such a unique tartan it would be ashame to get it in an economy and have to buy it again in a nicer kilt and have two of the same.
of your choices that leaves Wallace. No offense to the Wallace clan or tartan intended. You just can't get it in very many places for that price.

i wear a lot of University of Cincinnati Bearcats t-shirts. Red with black and white lettering. Black with red.
i just might go with Wallace.
on another note:
I think my mother's side of the family has ties to the Scott clan, her maiden name. Maybe i'm reaching. i have more research to do as far as our lineage goes.

I think Blackwatch should be in every kilted man's closet

Of course you mean "Black Watch", not "Blackwatch" -- two words.

I respectfully say, "Not in this Henderson's closet!"

I have the wallace economy myself. It's a great kilt for the buck. I've gotta agree with Rocky though. It is one heck of a strong tartan. That red is something bold. The stares and whispers seem double to me when I'm wearing the Wallace. Also, be prepared for people to tie it to the tartan on "Scotch Tape" and shortbread cookie tins! I get that constantly when I wear it. I also agree with Cavscout, the Irish National is an awfully nice tartan to skimp on and get in the econo. You would most certainly want to buy it in a better model later.
Oh, and by your avatar I should also mention that Rowdy Piper wore the Wallace tartan at least for a little while.

I cannot find fault with Cavscout's logic, get the Wallace.

I'd say Wallace or Black Watch.
