Opinions please!
I've ordered a new tan UK for Christmas. It came yesterday and I'm undecided as to whether to keep it. I ordered the same waist size as my other UK but it's a shade tighter. My other black UK is a 23" length and seems too long so I went with the 21.5 length and I'm wondering if it looks too short. I think I really need something in between. What do you guys think? (Note the gratuitous display of the Wake Forest University T-shirt, my alma mater and 2006 ACC CHAMPS!) Thanks!

I agree , the black kilt appears too long but I think it is more a case of you wear it lower in the front and higher in the back. Kilts as you know are designed to be worn horizontal to the deck so I assume the incline is what's comfortable for you. If that's the way you prefer to wear them you may want to consider the "gut cut" kilts if UK still offers them. Not that you have a gut mind you, just they gut cuts are designed to account for shorter in the front and longer in the back positioning.
Anyway, about the Tan, it does appear too short in the back and borderline in the front.
I'd stay with the 23".

I agree with cavscout, the tan seems a little short in the front.

I've always thought that there was another dimension besides waist, hips and lenght and that that was the angle on which the waistband ends up when the kilt is on your body. Everybody is built different and an evenly made kilt can therefore be "low in the front" and "high in the back".
The black kilt looks too long to me...personal taste, though...if that's what you're comfortable with then you should probably think about a longer version of the tan.

Try pulling the black kilt up in the front, just to see how it fits?

I tend to like the shorter look. When I bought my first UK, it was off the rack at an event, a 37" medium (23). when I ordered another the exact same size. it seemed too lomg. Lo and behold the first one I bought was really a short (21.5) and I like it's length better.
I think Steve at Freedom Kilts now takes the slope into account when you order a Freedom kilt. Not many other kiltmakers do.
Anyway, I think the tan looks fine.

You're Tan UK is not hanging properly as Cavscout had mentioned. The back is about 1 to 2 inches shorter. If this is wear you want to wear your UKs then I think a Beer-cut or "BC" is what you need. The kilt is cut different in the front to allow the kilt line to be even when viewed from the side. I would return it and try the BC kilt.
I like your Xmas present by the way
Cheers,

Thanks for the opinions guys. I don’t think I realized I was wearing these things at such an angle until I took these pics. I’ve been losing weight at a slow and steady rate and I’m afraid to go with the beer-gut cut (I don’t drink beer but I do eat too much!) if I continue to lose. I just don’t like the longer one beating against my knees so maybe I just need to try a different direction. I want a khaki kilt because it has been requested at work. Hey, if they’re asking for specific kilts I gotta try to comply!
