Last night my family and I went to a Mexican restaurant. I was of course kilted. I was wearing my generic tartan { I'll post pics soon} a colour co-ordinated shirt and Dreadbelly tam. I also had a pair of kneehigh socks that matched one of the stripes in my kilt. {very colourful.} When we walked in, the Mexican Senoras' face lit up. She obviously liked the kilt. When we were just about done with our meal, another family came in. The boy around 12 was in some type of sports uniform. As I stood at the register paying the bill, I heard the father, {obviously an ex-jock trying to relive his youth through his son }, whispering comments to his son and making him laugh. I kept my mouth shut and ignored them. It was obvious to me that this father was in doubt of his own manhood. The sad thing is that his son will probably be the same way. I used to beat those guys up in school for picking on the nerds. I did notice that his wife seemed to like the kilt, although I don't think she would ever say so in front of her bullying husband.
I would love to meet him in a dark ally!
I almost forgot, I had on my leather kilt jacket, as it was a bit nippy.

there are always people trying to hide their insecurities by belittling someone else...great that you kept your composure.

Sounds like your outing experience was just the opposite from mine. Sorry that happened to you ole' buddy The really ironic thing about it is that I'll lay odds that they were Scots by way of heritage.

Whenever you hear somebody laughing the natural conclusion is that they are laughing behind your back.
What's more difficult is to be charitable and assume that it's not about your kilt.

Have heart, Beuth Sim. You were the consumate gentleman for not calling the jock on his behavior. Sad but true that the son will be impacted by the dad's viewpoints (although sometimes kids see their parents and realize that their point of view is too narrow),
Dread, you're a riot! Congrats on your confidence (and your "pom-pom", Beuth Sim).
