Question The Last King of Scotland

This week sees the UK release of the film 'the Last King of Scotland' starring Forrest Whittaker as Ugandan Dictator Idi Amin who believed he had the right to the ancient throne of Scotland, however incredulous this sounds.
Critics say that Whittaker may be one of this year's nominations for the best actor oscar in Hollywood. In the film Whittaker frequently wears the kilt although I have no idea what the tartan is.
Unfortunately, Glasgow actor James McAvoy (Mr. Tumnus in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe) who plays Amin's medical advisor does'nt wear a kilt, pity.
Has anyone as yet seen this film and what is their opinion of it?

It's such a trek to the cinema for me these days that I tend to wait for the DVD, however I will see it then if not before.

It has had reasonable reviews on all the TV cinema programmes I have seen.

As with McClef; its such a trek to a big city to see the latest films; I just don't go to cinema nowadays; the last time I went to cinema was to see Men in Black at Parkhead Forge cinema in Glasgow in 1997. Films always come out on DVD long before the distributors allow a copy to reach our small local cinema. No doubt I'll see this one also once its available on DVD.

I've heard it was excellent. I haven't seen it myself, but it's near the top of my list to rent.

Films are often released on DVD in the US before they are shown in UK cinemas.

One of the reasons for the iniquitous region system.

That's why a lot of folks are doing home theatre PC's now. With most DVD-ROM drives, region coding doesn't matter a whit. Also, if you watch carefully in the discount shops (like Wal-Mart here in the US, or whatever their UK version is for some of you) you'll find that some of the cheaper no-name brand DVD players are region free (but they tend to go quick)
