Health Club
It's been a long time. I stay up with the topics. Has any one worn a kilt to a health club? My wife and I joined one and I'm going to wait till spring to take my kilt with. I was wondering if I might get bad comments about it. I will still wear it but I hope the guys in the locker room will except it. The wife is better about me wearing the kilt but is still a not totaly cool with it. I now have 7 kilts. Can't wear it to work. The boss would kill me. See ya. Ken

I think kilts are good for sporting ... especially the Sport Kilt. A heavy weight kilt would not be as good a decision as a light weight one.
You can't be afraid of what people think though.

Thanks. I do have a sport kilt. I gess I mistated myself. I will wear shorts for working out in and then change into my kilt in the locker room. My thought is the bigs guys will make smart remarks. Being medium build they will think of dumb things to say. I will let them get use to me for a month or so.

I would be a bit careful doing sit-ups and such in a kilt, but otherwise go for it! I'll be re-joining this week, and you bet I'll be kilted when I walk in the door!

I remember once going out to dinner straight after a half marathon race and changing into full kilt outfit in the dressing room after the race. Any comments from other athletes were all positive and someone even suggested I should have worn the kilt for the race.

A couple of years ago, I attended a gym three days a week (2 hours each day) for six months, after which I resigned as I felt and looked exactly the same after six months as the day I registered - but that's another story!
What was your question? Oh, yes! Kilts at the Health Club. Well, I wore a kilt every day I attended, but not in the gym itself of course! Yes, plenty of other guys and my Instructors saw me every time, and I do not recall any adverse comments at all. I do remember one chap saying, "So, that's how you put those things on! I've often wondered.", but Im sure any other comments, if there were any, were complimentary.
As has been said, just go for it. What others think does not matter.

I've changed into and out of kilts in the locker room and had no adverse reaction. I have had several conversations about highland heavy athletics that were spawned from the kilt.
A few weeks ago I was on my way into the gym and a gentleman of about 25 was on his way out in a tartan kilt and work boots - unfortunately I was not able to talk to him and haven't seen him since.

Sure, I spend a 16 months in Chicago and now you come up with a post? Seriously, I did the same thing, wore shorts, speedo, etc. to work out in, depending on my regimen that day, then showered and put on a kilt to head out and go to the office. I NEVER had a bad comment. Some polite questions about playing the pipes, why a kilt today, etc., but never anything derogatory. And like you I was extremely leery and concerned that I would get those kind of comments. Search my older posts and I am sure I shared some experiences.
