Try the Goodwill stores. I found a $5.00 kilt jacket there. Also the Salvation Army stores.

Many of the rental places sell them outright. It is a good idea to check rental stores for "ex-hire" kilts and jackets. I've heard stories of getting $600 kilts for $200.

Yep, you can usually find some online as well.

I have found some places selling their ex-rental kilts and jackets online, but none at a price low enough to make them attractive to me.
Best regards,
Jake

My daughter in Edinburgh bought an "ex-hire" complete outfit, kilt, PC and vest and belt from Dormie, somewhere in the UK, for my son for 200GBP and it cost another 40 pounds to ship to the US.

My local shop sells off their entire inventory every year of jackets and kilts every year, and their sporrans, belts and shoes whenever they start to show a little wear. They go for half retail with an additional discount and priority for those who have purchased kilts from them.

Does your local shop have a website?
