    Dirty Scots?

What the heck does grots mean?

Sounds like another case of Jock Jibing to me.

Typical Sun attempt at rhyming headlines!

I think they have taken the word "grotty" meaning "dirty, poor condition" and rhymed it with "Scots."

They might equally have used "Grotty Scottie" for example.

It would still be a perjorative twisting of the story especially as there are cities in Wales and England in the list.

No indication of the size of the survey nor how it relates to the population of the individual cities.

    What's grotty is their headline!

This may be from the movie 'A Hard Day's Night' by the Beatles in which George uses the term "Gotty" which is supposedly Liverpudlian slang for grotesque. It is said that Harrison would curl up in embarassment when saying the word having never heard of it before. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058182/trivia
