I need kilt hose!
I want to buy a pair of good quality, non-see-thru kilt hose, from an XMarks sponsor for my husband. I really don't want to spend $60 for them. I'd rather spend $20, but I know, unfortunately that good quality costs a bit more than that. Does anyone have any suggestions?

How about
Kilt Goodies

This is Robin's Shop, he has a sale on or had one recently, might be worth a try, and he has alot of colours.

There is always the Scottish Tartans Museum as well. I've also bought hose from the above mentioned Rocky @ USA Kilts, as well as a bundle of colours from Robin @ Kiltgoodies.com. Any way you go, they're all class acts.

Baby, There are a lot of suppliers out there. After joining XMarks I only buy from XMarks sponsors. I am glad I impressed that on you.

There are many other options for non-dress socks then "kilt hose". There are loads of knee high socks available. Many of the Alpine "Kniestrümpfe" are heavy, hand knit with nice Aran inspired patterns, high enough and typically priced at a small fraction of their Highland brothers. Kniestrümpfe and plus-2 hose (the stuff to wear with hunting breeches) in contrast to Kilt Hose continue to be standard clothing items (many "kilt hose", I fear, are sold as nearly wear once items). They and high English knee socks--- which tend not to be cheap but available in finest wools, cashmere and even vicuña--- don't have turn over tops but tend to be much better grade (and I think look better) than many of the low priced so-called "Kilt Hose". If one really needs the turn over top then one can get (or have made) a top--- something like hose-tops (footless hose) reduced to just a faux top (held in with garter flashes).
