    A mix of heritages

So we went to a Chinese New Year's Celebration this past weekend, and since our daughters are both from China, we like to celebrate their heritage and the Chinese culture as well. Here are some pics of me getting ready to head out with the family.

And of the girls, with their friend, at the restaurant for dinner after the celebration.

Very cute kids, KCW. I like your shirt with the kilt; a nice blend of cultures indeed!

You've got some beautiful girls there. You don't look too shabby yourself, though. What a combo!

Lovely photos of the children, Rob, and "well done" to you and your wife for keeping their heritage alive for them.

As for your ensemble! As you know, I am NOT a fan of brightly coloured or highly decorative shirts (I'm thinking Hawaiian here) with even plain kilts but, under the circumstances and remembering the event, that shirt actually works well with that kilt ....... however (and here comes the "but"!), suddenly - from the knees down - it all goes wrong! Sorry, but this is how I am seeing it. I cannot tell whether your hose are black or navy, but whichever they are, they are too 'strong' and dominate your appearance. Of course, we are very limited with hose colours that are available, but I'd have thought that something like Lovat Blue would be a huge improvement and the 'walking boots' look slightly incongruous with your dressy, evening-out top! Polished, black shoes would look much nicer.

My apologies, if I have 'got out of the wrong side of my bed' this morning (!!), but your hose and footwear hit me the moment I saw the photos - and I had to say something. You do know that there is not a drop of malice in me, I hope!!

It looks like you had a great evening of celebration anyway, and the girls certainly appear to have had a good time. Well done!

    Looks good.

I've found it very interesting that there seems to be a common "connection" between Celtic and Asian cultures. They seem to understand each other well and have common ties, even if any real link between is HIGHLY debatable. My Chinese, Korean, and Japanese friends seem to understand my intense facination with Scottish history and culture and also the cultures seem to make sense to one another.
I'll stop as that could be the matter for a tread of its own (and not to steal yours).

    Idea:
Kilts for dad and girls in a "Chinese" material . . .
That would go SMASHING with the shirt.

Hamish, no malice detected! What I really would have preferred was a pair of royal blue hose to match the top, but I have no such hose. In looking at it a second time, I think that navy hose, matching the flashes would have been better. At the time I was getting dressed, I was afraid that the bluse not matching would be distracting.

As for the shoes, the only ones I had available and I agree they are looking a bit shabby. They could use a polish. Good comments Ham.

    Rob,

I am sure this has come up before, but check out www.gunghaggisfatchoy.com

A local Vancouver guy (and Xmarks member) started this year's ago. It's a celebration of Robbie Burns and Chinese New Year rolled into one. I hear the haggis won ton is pretty good.

Good for you guys for keeping your daughters' heritage alive and in their lives. Everyone looked great.
